MWEB secures SAT-3 cable capacity

So much for the other whiny isp's saying it is impossible to provide fail over redundancy on 2 links at these prices...

I love you MWEB:love:

What I would like to know is why EASSY is so quiet? No one is "sourcing" anything from them, I've not seen any ISP's say "We sell EASSY" products? Where are they?

Infraco is also quiet after their "Launch" in November....

Nice! I may just have to re-think my hatred for this company based on how much they are doing and the balls and gusto with which they are doing it. What happened? Did they wake up from a Rip Van Winkle sleep and suddenly decide to become the most competitive company in SA? I still don't like their uncapped Terms and Conditions... but man, they really are pushing the envelope for internet in SA.

+1

Free the web further MWEB and drop the stupid ADSL line charges.
Then youll go down in history for sure.

Why do they wait until it is nearly too late before doing stuff like this. I was on the point of cancelling my account because of crappy speeds, but then all of a sudden, speeds are better again. Nice one guys, but next time, do it sooner please.

There is just no pleasing some people. How long have they had their own network? Less than a year... not an attack but some patience is required for a company that is revolutionizing the intertubes in this country.

Maybe our newly appointed minister needs to settle in first? ;)

So your telling me that after all the seacom troubles they had, it took them up until now to organise resilience? That imo is not impressive at all considering most other ISP's (even the smaller ones) have had full (not only in cpt) redundancy for months now.

If I were an Mweb client, I would be thinking "Thank god, took you long enough", and not "well done, we love you!!".

low pings and high speed since they did the upgrade on friday night... even P2P was flying. no complaints whatsoever from my side the last 2 days..

Erm, there was an article here on MyBB in the last two weeks about EASSY doubling their amount of active bandwidth (remember, they do not turn on all 1.5 Tbps in one go).

Which could only mean that they are doing brisk business, and have sold all the initial capacity.

I have no idea who is using EASSY bandwidth, so someone else will have to chip in on part two of your question.

I noticed a lot of happy people discussing quick response times. Publicity stunt by MWEB perhaps, to attract the "masses" ?

Not at all. Last night I was raiding (10 man), and my in-game latency was sitting between 193 - 201ms.
Connected to the EU - Frostwhisper warcraft servers. I really had to keep watching my ping times as i was waiting for it to increase. Didn't happen once..

Finally i can ditch my WebAfrica unshaped account! R99 per gig se gat! Pfft!

What classifies as "lower"? Sub 100? Sub 500? Sub 1000?

A normal international ping would be around 250 to 350 (using EU WoW as an example) with a capped offering. Are the Mweb pings now around that level or lower?

As mentioned already, last night i was between 193 - 201ms and that was in the middle of a raid which has quite a lot of extra burst during boss fights. Rock stable.

EASSY is owned and run by a consortium, which includes, Telkom, Neotel, MTN and Vodacom, among others. Don't expect big announcements from these guys with regards to lighting up capacity. These are the big guys, who don't really wet themselves for publicity with regards to improving redundancy etc.

You can rest assured that they are all busy testing EASSY, and working on integrating the capacity into their current networks.

International latency has dropped significantly on my Mweb account (CPT). In fact, I didn't even think this kind of latency was possible from SA. I'm getting a consistent 185ms to Europe in many online games, including WoW.
