Hi MWEB Guy

Please explain why YouTube is some how shaped/throttled? From the screenshot below, you can see YouTube start out fast, but then slowly slows down.

See pictures attached:

Hi grantduke

Streaming receives high priority on our Network.

A service can only be throttled if in a throttled state and yours is not. The status of your account can be viewed in My Account - www.mweb.co.za

Does all streaming channels give speed issues? You not downloading and streaming at the same time?

No I'm not downloading and streaming at the same time. And YouTube and Vimeo is having problems.

YouTube is not being prioritised, and is being shaped. As well as many other services it seems, like legitimate HTTP downloads (software etc.).

Straight up, let's please agree on this? And that there is a problem?

Yes or no?

If no, then do you not find it strange how suddenly, this thread has seen the most feedback it's ever seen in the past couple of years?

This one ran between 3.5 and 4.5Mbps, then went down to the usual 2 - 2.5Mbps. Which is fine, because there was no buffering on 720p. I must test 1080p again to see if it's improved.

I concur. Shaping in the week is killing my internet experience. Over the weekend all was hunky dory as far as downloads and gaming is concerned. During the week, all dead.

+1

I agree with you. YouTube is shaped and MWEB would not admit it.

I'm getting this on fb videos and http downloads currently:

The speed on youtube is variable - sits between 212 and 250kb/s and occasionally jumps to 300s.

Also been having shocking shaping on my 10mbit premium account. Driver downloads trickle at 200 - 300kb/s, Youtube stutters on 480p (fluctuating between 120kb/s and 280kb/s), but shuffle to speed test and it shows nothing is wrong. Also way below the "throttle thresh hold" on the account. Weekends also show little respite when trying to stream DSTV on demand, Youtube and even general game updates.

Just canceled my mweb account I'm not putting up with your crap anymore. 2x 100GB Vox packages are firstly cheaper and secondly faster. Goodbye.

So MWEB what do you have to say for yourself. It is not just one person having problems

As you can you see by all their responses to all our complaints, nothing other than the generic PR bs.

Again mweb I can't access certain sites (probably because they're download sites and you guys block them) but through a proxy they're fine.

I have to use/pay for this account until the end of August so I will continue to complain until then.

Get someone from upper management on here so they can tell us what's going on because getting annoyed with mweb_guy is pointless, it's shooting the messenger. I want to see if upper management or the actual network admins know what they're doing and how much they're ruining their customers experience.

Thanks for scheduling the callback, MWEB Guy.

MWEB have admitted that there is an issue with the shaper, no ETA but should be resolved soon.

Just waiting for MWEB Guy to publicly confirm this, which is in MWEB/support's interests, as well as us customers'. I also requested that they add it to the network notices page.

Just spoke to Telkom and asked them if the Exchange was the issue with my line, and they have said "Nope, not the exchange".

Right now Youtube was streaming at 20KB/s on my 1Meg premium data plan.

Then I tried two Afrihost capped accounts and it's streaming 480P no problem.

A CrystalWeb free trial account....and I get exactly what I should be getting.

150-200KB/s

So, Telkom is telling me the exchange is not congested, trying three different accounts (capped accounts, so I know there are different shaping priorities).

So yeah, something is definitely not right with MWEB on their premium uncapped accounts.

So someone at Mweb confirmed there is an issue with their shaper? How is there an ETA on a shaper when it was fine 2 months ago? Just go back to the original shaper XD

Aha, where did they admit this? Been telling them that for the last two months. Even my capped account is being shaped to death.

True to form, I can once again NOT connect to my gaming servers as we are in the shaping window. Come on Friday, I need to signup with an ISP that actually delivers what you pay for.

One of the technical guys.

MWEB Guy, please confirm this and put it in writing here, so that we can hold off the complaints and allow you the needed time to fix it.

It shouldn't take too long. Shaping is done in-house by MWEB, not by Optinet, not by IS/DD, and not by Seacom.
