MWEB Uncapped ADSL - Official Q & A

I took the full R599 deal. That's moving my DSL line to MWEB and uncapped 512. Problem is that I don't any difference in line speeds. Did a test on speedtest.net and got a 0.44mbps (440kbps), is that it? Isn't it supposed to be around 0.50mbps? I could swear i used to get about the same when I was on 384kbps!

The service was really crap. I had to phone them after a month only to find out the progress of the order, only to find out that it had been ready 6 days earlier. No communication from them.

Any advice how I can test my line to make sure that it is 512? I don't trust MWEB.

At what speed does your line sync at? On the modem?
 
Today again I cant make ANY connection higher than 5KBps, DC++ just gets timeouts since yesterday.
My GPRS cellphone could do better.
 
Since Thursday my download speed is non exsistant. Any help? Get timed out. download speed 1.6kbps on a 4meg line. Whats wrong with MWEB?.

76GB on a 384kbps line in one month? That's pretty much maxing out the line 24/7 for the month. So much for shaping crippling downloads ... :)
 
Oh and for all that say Shaped vs Unshaped? I mean really now? I'm not talking about rapidshare, megaupload, hotfile or any of those, i'm talking about pure HTTP, FTP protocols, traffic that would otherwise never be shaped. Even my RDP and telnet protocols are way way way slower that usual. SMTP has slowed to a standstill................
So with all these people with these blanket statements like ' oh hell you shoulda read the fine-print about shaping ' i say . . . . get a life and perhaps a little more education. I'm not as stupid as to just complain without performing every and all tests at my disposal before venting. My complaint is directed at both my international and local bandwidth - i just crapped out almost R2000 today for MWEB and telkom etc etc and what sort of service am i getting????
 
Well, yeah. This is south africa after all. Everyone is just about the money. They dun care about you.
 
Other than the download shaping and the work being done on their backhaul which I am sure will not be forever, I love MWeb

Yes and you will keep believe that garbage for an excuse for poor speeds.

What? There is a difference between excuses and explanations. Shaping does result in "poor speeds". We know that; it's part of the deal. Seacom/Neotel problems -- planned or unplanned, announced or unannounced -- will result in poor speeds for a period of time. No hidden agenda or excuses. At least something is being done to improve the network to reduce the chance of future failures.

Haha there has been more failures on this infrastructure in the last 3 weeks, than i can recall. Get spoon fed some bull**** from some fictitious figure on facebook and you gobble it up like the last supper. And i have a business account its not meant to be shaped. And the speeds suck.

What do you expect me or anyone here to do about it? Take up the issues with MWeb via the reps on these forums. I can't fix your "problems".

Lol i dont give a **** what you can do, and i wasnt expecting you to fix anything. This is a thread and im expressing my views on these products. Which i am entitled too.

You don't know how public forums work: If you aren't interested in a thread, just don't read it. The rest of us are interested in hearing how products are performing for people and discussing it. Or do you have an agenda? Or are you just ridiculously controlling that you actually think it's normal to go around trying to control what other people are posting to forums?
