lol... good luck with this one... I doubt it is going to happen. Most INTERNATIONAL SUBSCRIPTION-based news servers do not even have such long retentions.

Remember, the news service MWEB supplies is a free service - be glad they even have one :D

that 's just that start , download's are pedestrian, gaming well don't go there, & im in cape town and all my traffic is look's like it is all going to joberg before the real world ?

I use NOD32 and mine have not given me any problems, with anything. Have you checked to see if it is configured to update with a Proxy?

Switched to Afrihost account and went down to 14ms-16ms.

I am 4mb uncapped, CT.
I honestly cannot say I have had any such problems. I play online games, International [EU] and also AM and I average about 300-400ms. My local pings are also between 50-90ms.
I haven't had any browsing problems or streaming youtube, well, other than ONE time really a few (2/3) nights ago... HTTP downloads fly and news / p2p is a bit slower, although I don't use it a lot.

So, it's all good on my side and I am happy with this service, have downloaded quite a bit already.
 
@mweb - webpages more often than not, do not load! what kind of an internet experience am i supposed to expect? I'm getting extremely frustrated.. its the weekend.. I'm paying R900 a month and i cant even surf a couple pages... they either take too long to load.. or just time out altogether.. i mean really what is the point? Is anyone else experiencing similar problems? maybe its just my router / dns settings or something....

I get through to IMDB, just fine, but I can't speak for all protocols but news.mweb.co.za is dead in the water AGAIN...I honestly hope they are upgrading, cause otherwise they use the term "engineer" too loosely...

On telkom, the news server: news.mweb.co.za resolves to 196.28.78.229 and that runs (edit:ran for a few minutes) full speed

5 Days remaining before the 1st of April to stay or cancel.

The new MWeb backbone routing table seems to have an excessive number of hops to some destinations (presumably as part of the shaping and load balancing). For example 14 hops to www.iol.co.za which is a local site based in the same city as me!

This lengthy routing (and congestion) seems to cause some sites to timeout, which was something that we had gotten used to not happening. Likely to be teething problems...

I'm paying close to R600pm for 4Mbps (5GB cap), so I'm also a bit peeved...

So then cancel your account with them and go to another uncapped provided

Be reasonable! You are wanting MWeb to almost TRIPLE the retention period because one user asks for it "officially" on an online forum? The MWEB rep. on this forum is not a personal assistant / secretary for all of us, to whom we can simply issue requests like "Please advise me of their official reply". I'm sure the rep. and MWEB itself are much more busy with proper, sensible requests and with maintaining their infrastructure and service.

Yes, I'm sure that is MWEB's intention -- you've seen right through their nefarious plot. Offer an uncapped service to SA, but intentionally "shaft" all Capetonians. Then, refuse to answer the question and pretend that they are NOT shafting Capetonions. You'll have to move to another city.

This is certainly not the experience we wish to, or do provide. I suspect something may be amiss with your local environment/setup. Refereing to this post ...

... are you able to verify the following;

1. you are on the MWEB network
2. your router is using MWEB's DNS servers (use 'ipconfig /flushdns' on your Win PC to ensure there are no stale cache entries)
3. you have no proxy settings in any of the web browsers you use

If this still does not resolve your issues, you may possibly have an issue with your ADSL line (e.g. running high crc errors etc.). Should you require further troubleshooting support please contact our technical call centre on 0860 11 22 52.

Hi george_vg,

If you are still on Telkom (SAIX wholesale pre-migration) and are using Telkom's DNS servers, news.mweb.co.za should not be resolving to the above address, but rather 196.43.2.61.

Please try running > ipconfig /flushdns on your Win PC if you've changed sessions/connections.

Hi Gordon_R,

This is the nature of the IPC routing architecture, some paths will have a few extra hops. I'm sure if you try another provider's IPC based service you will see something similar.

That said hop count is not usually a good measure of experience quality or performance. If the devices & interconnecting links along the path are running optimally, impact should be negligable barring a few extra ms in latency.

If you read, im happy to get service ultimately, im not thrilled with the speeds at the moment and im just putting my experience online to see if others are having a similar problem.
Thats what a forum is for.
