MWEB Uncapped ADSL - Official Q & A

GOD.

There could just be a problem? "oh no, i've dropped speed today, better get out the pitch fork, and lanterns, times to kill me an ogre!" Okes are seriously touchy around here.

Firstly the blasphamy was not necessary
Secondly with MWEB's track record of acting firstly in their own interest then prospective costomers and then lastly current customers the pitch forks are not surprising.

I have been an Mweb customer for over 10 years now, but am thinking of cancelling.
I find it unacceptable that a company can make a new offering, and then totally ignore their customer's attempts to get hold of them. Takes a few minutes to get hold of new sales (gee..wonder why?) but I have now spent a total of over 2 hours trying to get hold of progress update dept, and still no answer.
If they can't bother to man the phones or employ staff to do it, then I can't bother to be a customer.
Am currently on hold right now, 27:23 minutes into the call, and still on hold. New sales..no problem, but can't answer jack. "Phone admin" Yes, we know you are "experiencing high call volumes" ...don't make it my problem. You can pay for sales staff..why not admin staff? As far as I am concerned, if I can't get hold of a person to answer my queries, then you don't need me or my business.

G26

Update: 43:20 minutes and still on hold. Beyond pissed!

One man's blasphemy is another's freedom. Think about it... use it don't use it....

i've applied for an all in line last week. and all i got was an sms with an order number. not even an email confirmation. i eventually got hold of the sales department on monday, and i faxed them all the docs they needed (they didn't even send me a mail of what was required, were they just gonna wait until i phoned them?). And now i'm back to not having a clue what's going on. Phoning them is a pain, the message is always 'we're experiencing high calls volumes'. Seeing this i'm a bit anxious about what to expect from mweb in the long run.
(the MWEB rep on here is fantastic though)

Can someone give seacom a glass of water? I have stuff to do.

Download Performance

Hi All,

As usual, we are very aware of the lower download performance (for non-pri traffic) many have been experiencing recently.

Due to the overwhelming demand for our Uncapped services, the network load demand on the non-pri BW pool (our excess capacity after pri traffic has been serviced) is exceeding our predictions resulting in greater levels of contention on bulk download type traffic. We are certainly not throttling anyone's speed on a per user basis, its just that the competition between download threads for avalaible excess capacity is pretty high at the moment.

The situation will improve during the course of the month as additional scheduled capacity is bought online, however as usual, this does not mean we guarantee line speed most of the time. Those with a keen eye would have noticed (by virtue of traceroutes) we've already done some expansion on the international side, however that is not where the bottleneck currently exists.

If I can again ask for a little more patience, we should have your downloads performing at a reasonable level in the near future.

PS: We've experienced a temporary 5min outage on Seacom, our engineers are chasing them up.

MWB.

is this why my internet has completely died ?

can't even download avast at the moment :(

Thanks for the info MWEB, looking forward to this all being over and seeing some stability on the network, and give those Seacom guys hell.

Thanks for that. I was getting a bit concerned over the low speeds I've been experiencing on my usenet stuff. It's understandable that lots of people are flocking to MWEB, all the other ISP's are failing in this Uncapped battle and the only ISP that's delivering a decent quality service is MWEB. I must it's not great, but it's a hell of a lot better than the IS guys.

Yeah my int is also giving trouble, he did say 5min outage so ill just wait i guess...

I currently rent email addresses from mweb for R70, if i get their uncapped package will that R70 a month fall away? like it did with iBurst.

Ever heard of gmail? ;) Ummm, call them. They should just be able to 'upgrade' the account to the uncapped package. Shouldn't be too difficult for them...

This gets asked alot. If you upgrade your existing package with them to the uncapped package, you will retain your old account details, emails, etc, and only pay for the uncapped service. You should phone their call center though to confirm that. Their number is 08600 32000. They are open until 10pm.
