MWEB Uncapped ADSL - Official Q & A

Hi guys

Anyone having speed issues tonight? RapidShare is only downloading at 2 - 10KB/sec and news.mweb.co.za is getting 0- 3KB/sec. Last time I tried (the weekend) I was getting full speed.

I have a 4096line with a 512KB account and I get about 62KB/sec on news.mweb.co.za and about 53KB/sec for RapidShare

Thanks in advance

No speed issues.

Torrents and Rapidshare collectively returning around 140kBps... Should open up around 11ish... Even Speedtest is well below par for 4096.. http://www.speedtest.net/result/773803082.png

Been getting close to 440KB/sec since about 18:00. You're prolly just unlucky. MWEB's uncapped 4Mbit service is the best thing that's hit SA. Of course now iBurst came out with unlimited data for 8h per day too. Nice.

I concur, been fantastic.
You not getting those speeds off a torrent or rapidshare though? Rapidshare servers are throttled and torrents too but other htttp links are not like filehippo, megaupload, youtube, etc they run full speed 24/7...

Yup newshost(astraweb+mweb) speeds have bee terrible today, Since 7am it dropped down to 300 then as soon as it hit 8am went right down to 80-100k. Hasn't gone any higher then 220kB/s all night. It's 00:37 and they still need to shape? really ? sux. Yesterday this time and over the weekend was full speed.

@MWEB

Could you please ajust your shaping policies to be more kind to lines under 4MB? Halving a 384 line's speed with p2p is very much unfair.

I'm with MWEB 4096 uncapped, and boy oh boy, are they awesome!!!

Loving it!! Haven't used it during the day as yet, but it is Superb during off peak
I will try and give it a bash during the day sometime.

OK, got a question.
We have Telkom WIMAX here at work (exchange not ADSL enabled), and since WIMAX uses normal ADSL accounts, will MWEB uncapped work?
I just spoke to a lady in sales, and she says no? Surely this isn't true?
What would make this uncapped account any different to any other ADSL account, that it wouldn't work with WIMAX?

Different technologies!

If you have 512k WiMax from Telkom yes any adsl account will work.

http://www.telkom.co.za/products_services/wimax/cost.html

They simply give you a normal All Access account. So yes it should work and was confirmed with Telkom that you may use any ISP. It also says that a normal adsl account will work on Telkom's WiMax platform. :-)

Why not ask some one if you can connect to a mweb account. Ask Mweb for a test account. 512k accounts they gave out for free.

Yeah, different technologies - but why is this uncapped account any different from any other ADSL account? WIMAX (EDIT: Telkom WIMAX) has always used std. ADSL ISP accounts.

Tha'ts the way I see it, but the sales lady said I need a physical line. Now if I could get 4mb ADSL, then I would - but I am stuck with 512kbit WIMAX for the time being  (I wouldn't mind so much if Telkom were actually interested in their WIMAX product - and upped the speeds)

i have used it during the day and they throttle torrents to like 50kbps which is acceptable but i am loving it!!! will never leave mweb the so stable!!!!

Great stuff, so i went to Telkom Direct on the 4th April, just had feedback my line will be installed on the 14th April.

Not too shabby from Telkom :)

Once my line is installed i will phone them and do the self install ADSL option, thinking of getting an intellinet wireless adsl router from Esquire for under R600 i think.

Mweb, is there no solution where i can request my ADSL line directly from you instead of going through Telkom and then only transferring the adsl line then??

yes you can, you apply through mweb and they sort it out on your behalf IIRC
it's on their website as well, but you pay mweb directly and not telkom.

sounds great but if telkom does bump up their lines then you might miss out on a free upgrade (i stand to be corrected)

thanks javs, i'm still juggling if i should get 4mb or 384kbps

I definitely want the all in one, but then again its only a R20 saving to keep the line at Telkom in case they do bump the lines up

Also Mweb is selling an adsl router for R599, so i might just buy that from them or get the Intellinet from Esquire.

Everyone is mentioning the upgrades but i don't see how Telkom will make it free, they still need to turn a profit
