Finally, someone on the same page as me! Thats a rip-off: having the same price as business less the installation, fee no router, no personal accounts manager no benefits for the same price? I really don't understand.

There is a benefit... NO CONTRACT! Which means you can drop the product after a month if you are not happy with it and move on with your life.
 
@Mweb - is traffic completely being dropped now for news servers during the day? I understand business protocols and what not, but i can clearly see by the logs that the connection is being denied before it even reaches the servers. I understand you're trying to punt off those stupid heavy downloader products but it seems to me, that you're basically pulling an afrihost here now.
 
I have 2 say that im steadily becoming more and more impatient about the level of service from MWEB. Im on the 4MB uncapped account, and the overall performance has gone down tremendously since march(the launch). Doesn't matter what i do, it looks like im being throttled....not shaped but throttled on any protocol. I don't get more than 200KB/s......care 2 share why this is happening MWEB?
 
Hehe - damn.

Mweb uncapped on a 4 meg line is still good compared to AXXESS uncapped last time I checked.
 
Problem is - where can you go? Afrihost is WAY worse... not sure about the other IS ISPs - but I'm sure its the same.
 
Partial International Outage

Hi All,

We have experienced a failure on one of our international circuits from 2am this morning. In order to maintain priority traffic performance it has been neccessary to shape non-priority traffic more than usual.

Our engineers are working to resolve the fault as rapidly as possible. You patience is appreciated.

Perhaps investment in better in international circuits is required, as in the past 3 weeks you've had more failures than any other ISP i have been with, its either some where in midrand, or se-me-4(not within your control), now other international circuits, this week, and last. And if i am not mistaken the week before last.

As soon as the shaper is not set to destroy Mweb has the advantage i reckon. I've been with 4 uncapped offerings thus far and the MWEB offering is one of the best.
Best is to stick it out until they sort their problems out.

MWEB is still busy learning what their user base is like.

Saying it's the best kinda implies it's good which it's very far from at this stage, it's usable but not spectacularly good. They are the better option at this stage I believe though!

That they did not know from the start is a sign of sinelity or stupidity...or they did actually know and have everyone pretty much fooled. It's much easier getting away with a fast-money scheme if u pretend to be an idiot.
 
It's damned expensive, but our Internet Addict (uncapped/unshaped) account is performing as advertised, so the wife and teenager are happy. Rapidshare always at full line speed (400KB+) even right now with the intl problem.
Just wondering if MWEB will throttle us to 4meg speeds if our lines are upgraded to 8+meg?

Ignorance is bliss ... I do agree with you. Same applies for the shaping ... lame excuse to say that the network is busy all the time and that the problem lies on your side. I have heard this excuse many times tiz month from FB users.

How the heck do we know that its busy or not - they just shape it all away :twisted:

HAHAHA they cant even handle real 4MB NOW, what makes u think 8MB is even really gonna be possible?
 
I dont think uncapped is sustainible in the long run. I heard folks asking for a break down of protocols and speeds and to which level shaping is applied. ISP's will never give you a break down of ports and or protocols and shaping tendencies. On 8 megabits I would clock and excess of 2.5 Terabytes a month however even I believe that is a bit much and with constrict that I'm a bandwith HOG !

As for allowing us almost 1 meg a second transfer rate would be surely kill them and put the final nail in the coffin.

So here comes the shaper yet again ....

Dail up would look sexy after the shaper is in full effect, promise you that much :-)

I think uncapped is sustainable. In the next 12 months there are two more fibre lines 'suppose' to be put down/up and running, which would more than tripple SA's current international bandwidth. Also, if the ISP's manage to get Telkom to cut down on their 'interconnect' charges (ie the same thing that the ICASA just ruled was anti-competitive for the cellphone providers) we could see another price drop in bandwidth prices, or at the very least make it more sustainable to have uncapped packages.

@MWEB:
May I ask what is wrong with Seacom this time around? A break again or exchange issues this/that side of the cable?
