MWEB Uncapped Speed Issues

Hi guys, also experiencing this issue...also contacted Mweb Guy...with back and forth messages, still no answer why MWEB is half the speed that is was 2 weeks ago

Here my last message to them :

Not be offensive or anything, but are you reading what I am telling you!

It doesn't matter what I do....Download via HTTP, HTTPS, youtube, the max im getting out of Mweb, is between 200-250 KB/s, nothing more!

The previous tests, including SpeedTest.com, was done with 1 computer connected the router, Wireless off...I know about your prioritizing, but like I said before, with the same type of traffic a month ago, we got full speed. So i dont how this type of traffic was priority last month, and now its de-prioritized.

The bandwidth monitor application found here http://sourceforge.net/projects/freemeter/ , also give me a max of 250 kB/s on Youtube.com. That is telling me the connection is limited or throttled. Are all our traffic being de-prioritized, if so, why? Did we do something wrong on our side with regards to your AUP?

P.S The point im making with Afrihost, that the problem isnt with our router, line or exchange.

Hi Stigmata101,

We take pride in providing customer service and are always here to help.

Your speed test results does not seem to be a true reflection of what you are experiencing, taking into consideration that you are getting 400Kbps on P2P (which is excellent).

Yes, we do not shape HTTP, depending on where the HTTP is downloading from. So could you provide me with the HTTP site you download from and do you know if it's a 1 click hosting site?

With troubleshooting we can come to a better understanding of what's actually happening at your end.

Kind regards,
MWEB Guy

Blah Blah Blah Pride Blah Blah Blah One day later and no communication with me regarding the problem, for which i now see i am not alone.

Had a period last night when the speeds where normal, for about 10min, then worse than before and finally back to the 2Mbps.

plug my Axxess login details and back up to 3.5Mbps, 15min later still 3.3 and this morning before work 3.35

Is MWEB going to communicate with me or hope that i go away with my 'problems'

It sounds like everyone is having the same problems and mweb are denying it for whatever reason.

Mweb what I have been reading is nothing more than K@K:wtf: The speed some people is getting is horrible. Yet, people still support them. But you have to understand that Mweb a large amount of Seacom badwidth.
So basically all I am saying is if you have a problem with the Mweb get a new ISP that will delivery and give you what you need.... :love:Axxess:love: Openweb ( You get what you pay for)

As for "Stigmata101:D" Stop complaining... The connection isn't going to get any better... They will still shape you heavy LOL
I did testing on both Mweb Uncapped Unshaped & Uncapped Shapeed accounts and it is for people how is willing to have patients LOL not for me... Waited 2 minutes before a page opened WTF...

It isn't the ADSL Line speeds.. I have an Axxess IS Express Account and I get 192kb speeds during the day but after 7PM I get full speeds.. 10 MB always...

And then in later in the month you will get shaped. thats whats so cool about MWEB they never shaper all your porsts 24/7 due to high usage

Hi Stigmata101

Would you mind please dropping me a PM with your details.
I'd like to look into this for you from my side to investigate the issue.

Kind regards,
MWEB Guy

I just love it how Mweb guy always asks for the users details and says he will look into this for you, when he can clearly see that the issue is not just at a specific person, but to a lot of mweb users. So instead of looking at their network and looking at why things are heavily shaped/throttled for all users, he looks at just one account lol.

Careful Looney... you might be jumped by one of the MWEB "wannabes" soon...

There is a specific reason for it. Many times it was not the network but a line issue or a software hardware setup issue. Will helped quiet a few people overcome their own specific problems. When Will detect issues with the network then the addresses that issue with their engineers. You get us any other ISP rep doing that service.

As an example. Last week I had numerous problems. I solved my own problems by doing tests, optimize and changing my TCP settings on my network card, change modem settings and trying other news readers such as my connections improved and I am getting fair speeds, not great just fair. So there was a issue on my system apart from the shaping Mweb deployed.

This has been commented on before, but they keep doing it, and we never hear what the outcome was.

what is your usage per month. I want to go for another isp but I''m scared aswell

I just spend some time looking at alternatives. Unfortunately they are either pricey or they have the IS rolling window system (cr@p). Thus up to now Mweb was the best but if these shaping trials they now employ give worse performance than Openweb or other ISP's then its time to go. I still think that it would improve soon, as soon as the Mweb engineers stop their playing and get it right. To shape the news servers to 40 KB/s as a tier1 ISP is just criminal and I would then rather move up to the WA Business accounts as their method of the rolling window seems excellent. They even have a Speedometer indicating your progress towards that danger zone. I hope either Mweb improves their shaping back to what it was or WA bring on a home uncapped.

Looking at the guys in CPT and the speeds they post I do not think it's Mwebs intention is to kill the experience but rather the JHB engineers are struggling to get it right. I have patience, for a while still.

You also seldom hear all the same guy''s complain again. So either they moved and said nothing or they are now happy.

People only complain when they are unhappy. When there are no issues they have no reason to post. I experienced this over and over - some of my clients won't even send me a reply email saying that the issue is resolved, they only send one / phone when it's not. I have to actually phone them and ask if the issue is resolved. Human nature I suppose ...

The users that was helped are free to post that the issue was resolved. I have seen such posts before in this thread.

Well, i have sent MWEB Guy a PM and will post the progress.

MegaXLR, where did you find the info on the shaping trials you mentioned?
