Im still happy with my MWEB 384 uncapped.
Doing anything from 30-50GB per month.
HTTP download always full speed.
Torrents and NZB half speed during the day most of the time.. not important because im at work... but I do VPN into home PC to check things out.
Browsing and downloading after hours is good.

Def worth R219 per month :D Thanks MWEB !

Hi mk1

Hi xrapidx

PM me your details and I will look into this for you.

Thanks - but I've had enough of the ups and downs with this service, its a good percentage down, then when its up, its shaped to hell and gone that I keep switching over to a prepaid GB bundle, and every now and then(not enough) it performs as I expect it too.

I'm either going over to a business uncapped product - or going back to capped.

Right now I have a torrent with many seeds - speed, 2.1KB/s

Newsgroup - idling along at 40KB/s - its average speed for 26 hours.

Daft question of the day:

I want a file. Would MWEB prefer that I obtain said file via their newsgroups service rather than by torrent or http download? Or doesn't it matter to them?

Why would anyone care how you get the file?

Torrents during the day?>!>?
Impossible for quite a while
now on 384. Half speed??

This I have to see.

Also on 384 k, torrents are dead during the day, but on well seeded torrents at late night I get 15-20kB/s, early mornings sometimes improve. It suites my needs fine. News server is unpredictable, Sometimes I get full speed during the day, some night it fails to connect, some nights it out performs my SAIX one.

they would prefer it he didn't manage to get a way of getting over http. the natural assumption seems to be that files which are available over torrents/nntp means those are the default mediums. hence why MWeb Ops said that services which download torrents and you pick them off via http are bypassing shaping.

which of course is a bulls**t arguement because it assumes that once something is available from torrents, that is the default download situation.

The 700MB remaining completed and astounding 290MB last night from NEWSGROUPS on a 4MB line.

Hi xrapidx,

You were asked to PM your details yesterday, why not give us the chance to assist you?

Firstly, I can't delete messages in my mailbox - I keep getting errors (check other threads, I said this yesterday to someone else) . I'll try send them over facebook this evening when I get home... (no facebook at work)

Secondly, I'm not sure how that is going to change anything, because the minute I change over to a 1GB prepaid bundle, the connection works fine....

I also don't really see the point in being with an ISP where you constantly have to interact with them to get a stable connection... in the quite a few years I've had ADSL, MWEB is the only ISP that requires this interaction when you have a slow connection that isn't line related... which I find a bit odd.\

Maybe MWEB can explain to 'us' what exactly you do to fix or troubleshoot problems like this when we provide our details, and maybe also why this can't be done proactively on accounts?

I am experiencing enormously reduced speeds on downloads, specifically torrents. Was really decent in July, this month has been in the 384k territory for most of the time on a 4MB line.

MWEB surely can't pretend that they are not aware of this or that it is a user issue? These speeds must be as a result of concious and specific decisions which have been made in order to reduce the monthly throughput on their servers. I will probably cancel at the end of this month, which is a shame as I got over the majority of my download needs last month and believe I'd normally be exactly the kind of client MWEB would like on their uncapped account from here on in.

When I pay for 4mb, I expect to get it - maybe not all the time but certainly for most of the time and not for none of the time.

I expect it to be shaped, but not to be shaped to a CONSTANT slower than 384kb/s speeds. 3.5GB takes 48hours?

I'd really like to understand what MWEB do when you provide your details - I don't want it to be something like being assigned to a different shaping pool for a week or two, and then back in the same boat. I'd like to understand what exactly they need to do to 'fix' the problem which to me is shaping problem.

To Go or To Not go Uncapped...That is the Question

We are currently on the MWEB AllIn 512 5GB Cap R549 pm Option
With a Billion 7401 VGP MWEB Router
Experiencing alot of ADSL Outages either from Telkom ADSL Line or MWEB that has to be coaxed into resetting the Port..

Would it be better speed/connection/stability wise going uncapped and which Uncapped Option?

Considering:
R349 Uncapped 384kbps Shaped
R599 Uncapped 512kbps Shaped
R629 Uncapped 384kbps UnShaped ... Any other Advice Suggestions ??

Take the uncapped unshaped 384, although stability and connection could be outside of MWEB's influence

It will change nothing, i am now with telkom again and my 4 meg is a dream, people should face it MWEB suck at this uncapped product....I was getting average 50kbs on a 4meg line for 2 months

I was thinking the same.

I think MWEB does it to deflect further
comments. By asking for your details
they try to infer that the problem affects
you only and no-one else.

It also identifies you, so you are less
likely to get openly upset on an
anonymous forum.

So many of what is written about their
service affects everyone and there is a
need to address things on a wider basis.
