The thing is I am away from hone during the day (come home by 6PM, and all weekend)--so I magine, I should be fine with the OW LITEoption. I was also thinking of what sandmanm34 said in another thread--MWEB uncapped is R44 more than this, but is shaped--he mentioned MWEB doing relatively fine during the day, but better at night. Besides, MWEB (when I was with 384K uncapped with MWEB) continued to service me even when Seacom was down. Do OW netwrks also have some redundancy to divert their clients to when one pipe is down?

Thanks

Yep, the steam update is also crawling for me on mweb 4mb uncapped, like its using a 14400 modem to update. I think it might of even stalled totally.

The problem here is that MWEB shaper regards
game downloads and games as P2P, which is not
prioritised. They should find a way to separate
game play from game files.

I wonder what port the updater uses, I had the same connection problem but once I was in, downloads etc ran fine.

Been running for two hours now, restarted twice. Updating steam client. Can't get passed 8%. *sigh*

I believe, if what I've read on these forums is correct, you have to get permission from mweb to change which domain you use for your login details. I'd also like to know, what changing the domain actually does. I believe it switches you from the mweb to saix backbone... but I could be wrong.

Perhaps MWEB Operations would care to comment?

You can simply change it in your router without asking, all that might happen is that they ask you to change it back. However I've been fine using @mweb without permission. We'll all be changed back in September when Telkom upgrades their uncapped network links in any case.

And yes it does move you to "SAIX wholesale" bandwidth, which performs really well. This is all from Mweb Ops himself, it's just hard to find him posts in between these threads.

I tried using @mweb.co.za but my router goes into a spasm after I do and I have to set it back to @dslmweb.co.za.

Hi Isengard,

That sounds painfull, what exactly do you mean? I'll need your Mweb details to check it from my side

I'm trying to download from Rapidshare, but I keep getting "you have reached the download limit for free users". Never used to get that. Is it something to do with changing from dslmweb.co.za to mweb.co.za?

It's most likely that the ip pool that @mweb.co.za shares is smaller than the one @dslmweb.co.za shares so there have been too many using milking the free allocation from RS. Why not just buy an account?

Yeah, I'm at the Rapidshare payment thingie right now, but I'm struggling to work out what they mean by "rapids" and all that crap. Do you buy, say, 400 Rapids (that's the smallest option available to me), then they charge you 99 Rapids per month to download 30GB? Did I understand that correctly?

Yes, that's correct, so it's basically for 4 months @ 30gig per month
