MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

What sort of latencies do you guys get on online gaming for PS3? Thinking of switching over to MWEB 512 uncapped next month

Online games are heavily shaped - same as P2P
torrents. The ping varies a lot and can often
spoil the experience if you like the fast games.

I noticed that, they must be putting the mweb.co.za on a Natted network. You share one IP with everyone fom there on...

That was not the case before. I guess it's one
way to 'block' the most popular sharing site.

@MWeb Ops, is this even true? From what I understand some games content distribution (updates and maps etc) are shaped because they literally are P2P based.

I don't see the need to shape the small amount of traffic that actually playing the games produces, except that it' non-http traffic so maybe not prioritised.

We've been arguing with MWEB about this
for months. There was some suggestion
about seeing if they could provide a way at
least to download game maps or updates
without it taking forever and a day.

This would apply to all sharing sites. Strange though because I'm on the @mweb.co.za network and Rapidshare etc still works fine. Maybe something to do with location, I'm in Cape Town.

And the @mweb domain is not even their uncapped network, it's just what they're moving some customers over to while they wait for the @dslmweb network to be upgraded. So this wouldn't apply to their uncapped service at all once they move all customers back.. just before you start using this to bash them in every other thread as well. :p

Ye I get that, but I'm wondering if all gaming traffic is actually heavily shaped, the same as P2P, like you said.

I get quite decent speeds with Second Life (and that is bandwidth-heavy). I don't play other online games so I cannot comment on them.

File sharing is switched off. Something is going on with international as most ISPs international is just dead atm.

We have lost one of our international links. In order to mantain a decent service to priority traffic we have disabled File Sharing for now. As soon as the link is back up and stable we'll open up file sharing again.

Kind regards
MWEB Operations

As I said. Gaming traffic is considered as
P2P. There are no ifs and buts here. The
shaper sees them and deals with them in
the same way.

Please stop shaping SC2 :( It's too awesome to be shaped. We buy this game because of Battle.net. Don't want to see our money go down the toilet because of poor online sc2 gaming performance :(

EDIT: File sharing is enabled again! :D

How do you know this? Do you work @ M-Web network operations? If not then please don't pass around assumptions as facts.

4mbit line syncing with telkom at 8mbit. For the entire weekend my speed was junk. So frustrating still slow:
