I daresay most things are more telkom's fault than mweb's, sometimes mweb can't give us clear answers because they don't have them, would be nice if they were more transparent though.

What a bad night Mweb.. 20k a second on my 4 Meg (Synced at 3 Meg) line using astroweb.

I was running virtually at full speed until about 9pm... then it was like a I hit a brick wall I went from 300k to 20k..

Mweb Ops... what was wrong last night... as there seems to be other people complianing so there must of been a problem

I experienced the exact same thing, started downloading at 7pm at about 250kB, which I made me thought "hey, this mweb thing isn't that bad". But then came 9pm and back to downloading at 15-30kB. Hugely disappointing. I would like to hear their excuse this time.

I am starting to feel rather bad for the MWEB operation guys on this forum..........MWEB seems to be hated more than Malema these days :)
Come on be transparent, whats wrong with your systems?

Jah, I agree! Look, I don't mind if they are having issues and have to shape us to death for now. As long as they come clean and tell us how it is and what they are doing to rectify the situation and the ETA.

Agreed, I just want a date on when this will be fix, I am quite a new subscriber, 2 months now, and Paying them R1600 at the end of the month just doesn't justify it for me.

I contacted MWEB support. My issue was HTTP downloads failing after a few minutes (files such as skype, drivers from Logitech and firefox). It took them 3 days to respond. In the response they asked me to download a file from Microsoft and to report back on the speeds I am getting. My internet is really decent this morning and I downloaded the file at an average of 30 KB/s +.

It kinda feels like a waste to do the test 3 days after the call was logged but hey Im not complaining since I can actually use MWEB for the first time in weeks.:D

No.

MWEB is loved here, you only need check the latest survey to find that.

90% of posts about MWEB are people with problems, because without problems, they wouldn't post at all.

I love MWEB, and what they've done for the broadband community of SA, and I wish more people would do the same.

Afrihost started the ball rolling, but they've fallen out of the spotlight lately, and haven't delivered up to what people expected of them anymore.

When was this Survey done?

Can you PM me who you went with please - I am sick of this **** now.
Cancelling today as well, I am paying premium for my NEWS provider - and I cannot even get those files, atm im just dumping money into nothing because of MWEB

Did you see the answer from Mweb on FB about news-server problems?

Any reason that I would have issues connecting to Mweb's news server and
slow speeds in downloading articles, since upgrading to 4Mb/s Uncapped line? I was able to download faster on a 384kb/s line?

There are occasions when the capacity of our news servers comes under strain. What we do know though is that the function of newsgroups has been replaced by far more effective services like forums and p2p. In reality it’s only a very small number of users who access our news servers and it doesn’t make sense for us to spend more money on an outdated technology, when there is a viable alternative readily available.

Mweb still running superbly for me. Most nights I only turn on my downloads at midnight and by 9 I've done about 13GB's.

What I do know is that this guy is a idiot, newsgroups are FAR more effective for me than ANY form of p2p and always have been.

No, its not, it was developed 26 years ago and it uses 64kb chunks that are 7bit encoded to store the gigibytes of data that you pull from it. Your access to the server is logged so it is not only more inefficient like modern day P2P protocols it is also much more dangerous.

Then why have I been able to use it more efficiantly and with greater ease than anything else? The only viable alternative is DC++ which has mostly been rather tempramental. Torrents are bandwidth whores end of story, very inefficiant and unpredictable. And I wont even mention services like rapidshare that are COMPLETELY unusable.
True most of these things have to do with shaping, but newsgroups at least have the benifit of being local if you use mweb's.
And lets not forget that sometimes the lines get so bad that forums dont work properly, ive even had periods where it was virtually impossible to actually post something on this very forum.
