MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

Further to my feedback on youtube earlier, just watched 3 HD trailers 3-5 minutes in length at 720p, slight buffering occured at the start of the 3rd clip, other than that playback was smooth.

I will check this again at various intervals tomorrow.

@ Will@MWEB, any response to the news server issue I'm having? Is it just me or is there a problem with it in general?

I am downloading at over 200kbps on a mweb 4mb shaped account and a 3mb telkom line at the moment using utorrent..... i think you are downloading a low seeded torrent or your pc is wack?

The lowest seeded torrent I have is 212 and the highest 3619.

How do you mean my pc is whack? Is there something in particular I should check to troubleshoot?

Nope news is dead for me again now.

You know, it feels like a good old network split if folks remember those.

I know that one of my colleagues has been looking into the news server queries over the course of last week, I'll ask him to give us a full update today on exactly what the status is.

Ok so you cant deal with individual issues here but rather general ones? Ok heres a general issue:
All over the country people on MWeb uncapped are complaining that the basics like http, IMAP and streaming video are not performing, performing erratically or are generally very unpredictable. In short-service levels are up the pole and not good enough. This implies that you guys are fiddling and breaking things. Personally I cant believe you dont have access to this info from a technical side. I dont fart arse around with crappy service anymore so if its not sorted out by the end of the month Im cancelling and trying someone else. And just in case you missed it the first three hundred times- when we change to another ADSL account the problems mysteriously vanish. Now Im not a rocket scientist but Im sure theres a huge clue in there.

Forget P2P, if http aint working well then its pretty much a given that P2P wont fair much better.

I can confirm the exact same issues...especially with youtube and the likes over the past few days. I even posted about it on Mweb's facebook page only to be told there's nothing wrong.

Switch to another ISP account and everything works like a charm, therefore there's nothing wrong with my line.

I had full speed on news servers from 1am to 6 am. Full speed started an hour later than normal (1 instead of midnight) and a hour shorter ended at 6 instead of 7.

It is also the second weekend that there was substantial shaping during day time over the weekend as apposed to when I started at this service, where weekends was basically unshapped.

Sorry for this, but I missed a few pages in this thread. Hopefully it's already been spoken about, but if not:

I still can't connect to MWEB news servers. It's been about 3-4 days now that it just sits there and won't connect. I think it went online on thursday morning for a few hours, but other than that, I've had no connectivity whatsoever. Anyone else experiencing this?

I haven't been able to connect for the last week or so and I'm not the only one.

Freshy if that is the case, surely it's even more important that you allow us the opportunity to troubleshoot and understand the problem that you're experiencing so that we can address it?

Well somethings happened:Youtube HD trailers flying. Buffering about 4 times as fast as I am watching it and all this on a Monday morning in business hours! Lets see how long this lasts.

Hey guys. Without having to read through 433 pages or nearly 6500 posts, I would like to find out who here is using the 512Kbps uncapped version from Mweb and who of those guys game online? Specifically FPS like BC2 or COD: Black Ops? What are your pings like and where are you located? JHB, PTA or CPT? Also, what kind of downloads do you manage per month?

Thanks!

My downloads seem to be moving after hours - although browsing is still a nightmare. Streaming facebook video's is pathetic.

I have the 512 package. Tried a round of AA3 on an international server a couple of times, but it was useless. If PB did not kick me for high ping, then the server admin did. Have not tried anything after that.

I only use news servers for downloading, and have downloaded 156gig in September, 65gig in October, and so far for November 39gig. As you can see it is starting down a slippery slope, and who knows where it will end. Those amounts were not from a lack of trying. I generally don't download during office hours (besides it would be pointless as speeds range between 0kBps - 7kBps), and mostly run at night and over weekends.

That said, even at only 39 gigs I think it is probably still the "cheapest per gig" around, but OpenWeb packages might well be better value per gig though, not sure.

Freshy I believe the engineers have picked up an issue with Google cache servers which may be affecting this for JHB customers. It's being looked at now. I'm in the process of arranging a remote test environment on an ADSL connection in JHB so that I can have a realtime view of the customer experience up north. This will put me in a much better position to verify and escalate issues of this nature.

Kind Regards
Will

Is there any update on the Mweb news server issue? It's been on and off since Friday.

I've been having a real rough time with my 4 meg account the last 4 or 5 days. I'm in Cape Town and over the weekend certain sites would randomly not load. But one minute later it will load. Then another site that was fine earlier now won't load. And on and on it went for a lot of the weekend.

Today my speeds have been poor and I'm losing my network connection every half an hour or so. I'm generally quite chill on these matters but its getting really annoying now. But if nobody else is having problems, maybe I should be contacting Telkom to look at the exchange?

EDIT - I just edited this post at the same problem. Got an error message. Refreshed and then the page loaded. It's really working on my nerves. I've reset the router a number of times.
