Even news server is running slow tonight...

Hi StevenC,

What were the speeds like last night? Which news server are you referring to and are you the only 1 connecting to the router?

Can you send me a screen shot of your actual download speed please.

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

Careful how much you complain guys! Hahaha! I'm flabbergasted that this appears in MWEB's AUP:

Spam/E-mail abuse is prohibited using IP Services. Spam/E-mail abuse shall include, but are not limited to, the following activities:

• posting a message to more than ten (10) online forums or newsgroups, that could reasonably be expected to generate complaints;

I really think big business think they can write whatever they like in their AUP's. Well they can I suppose, doesn't make it right though.

Speedtest:

0.11 Mb/s from Vodacom:

0.08 Mb/s from Newlands:

HTTP download from overseas hovers around 20-25 Kb/s..

It's off and on as it does during the week. Using it for business during weekdays, email goes down fairly regularly for varying shortish periods.

One Q to other users: Is anyone able to watch Youtube at 360p without it taking ages to buffer? ..have to resort to 240p so often.

Yeah YouTube never used to buffer but now it does ....... not irritating personally but it is worse than it used to be yes.

I struggle to even stream anything at 240p. However, in the early mornings from about 4am to 6am I can sometimes stream at 360p.

This is in stark contrast to about a month ago where I could stream 720p without any issues. Hoping the engineers can help me out other wise I will be forced to switch to another provider.

384k speed for 4meg money doesn't make sense.

Dear Janneman

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

If the problem in question has been present for a long time period and permanent in nature, I suggest that you check the ADSL speed of your connection via the option as found from the website below to get an idea if it is line related:
http://speedtest.neotel.co.za/

If the above yields a much lower speed compared to the ADSL line speed that you rent from Telkom, then I suggest that you contact Telkom ADSL on the number below to check the connection of your local ADSL exchange or to verify that no problems are currently being encountered with that exchange or the line you connect to for line noise, signal loss, noise on the line, attenuation. And ask them to recreate your ADSL port.:0800 375 375

Please contact us should you require any further technical assistance.

Kind regards,
Ernest Stripp

errrr....

Oh ye I still have to let 240p buffer a bit, sometimes longer than others..

I suppose you get (or don't get ;) ) what you pay for.. Oh Africa..

Just did a test download for Ubuntu Linux. From local server I got 400k/sec. From international I got 20k/sec.

I think all indicators point to the new piece of hardware in London. Are engineers looking into this? I'm getting the feeling we are being aggressively throttled and MWEB are skirting the issue.

I've started looking at the pricing of other providers. Just waiting to hear from the engineers at MWEB. I have been patient for a month now and paid them R600 odd for similar service to what I used to get for R219.

Now I want answers and my problems solved or I am gone.

i understand its shaped and all of that birds and the beez etc, but why should i pay for the 4mb product, if we are getting speeds equivalent of the 1mb product on legit http downloads?

Hi hambone

Generally speaking when looking at something like this in the AUP you should consider under what circumstances this rule would need to be invoked. Our abuse team regularly receive complaints from 3rd parties regarding spam, or other forms of abusive behavior which need to be investigated and addressed if necessary and there have to be some guidelines in terms of what would be considered acceptable behavior.

I'm not sure what original phrasing means. Does it seek to prevent (1) posts complaining about MWEB or (2) posts which are offensive (about anything) and which would generate complaints from other users about the post itself?

Hi Brenden_E,

Could you send me screen shots of ping and tracert results please and do a speed test from the following link: http://www.mweb.co.za/helpcentre/MWEBSpeedTest.aspx

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

Without being rude, can you please stop acting coy? If you look at the amount of people complaining about this over the last week, it's fairly obvious mweb has some kind of problem. Unless you are seriously incompetent, I'm sure mweb is aware that there is some kind of issue with their network. Instead of asking for irrelevant info, just tell us wtf is going on and how long it will take to fix. Then I'm happy. But this wallowing in uncertainty is not so great, actually.
