A quick question about mweb:

I apologize if it shouldn't go in this thread but here goes: Does mweb also offer a free fax to email number?

I had one when I was with axxess but I had a look on mweb's site and I found a link for 'faxmail' under the account section but one of the terms and conditions is that I must pay in money into my account to use it. Is that only if I want to send faxes via email that I must pay or is it for receiving as well?

Fax 2 Email is generally free, but mail 2 Fax never is.

This is sounding promising now, maybe they have turned a corner. I really hope it stays that way, bodes well for the future when I might be able to afford one of these ;)

Torrent speeds are good, my gaming ping however is rubbish...

Usually it was 50 - 80 on my old telkom account, with this mweb its between 100 - 150...Maybe i gota format this damn thing again

There are 3 services.

Free FAX to EMail. This is an 086 premium number.
Paid Email to Fax. You need to deposit funds to send faxes from email to a telephonic fax machine.
Paid Fax to Email. This is a local number - eg 021, 011, etc. You need to deposit for this one too.

On 384 line. Like everyone else, got full 38kb/s on news.mweb.co.za until about 1PM today, now they gone down to about half speed, about 15 - 20 kb/s. News server seemed to tick over at 10PM last night, was getting 38kb/s. From 7PM to 10 PM was getting between 28 and 32 kb/s. Was able to get about 1.5GB from 9 last night to 8 this morning (about the same I got on the telkom news server).

The weekend speeds were great, monday and tuesday caused problems. But yesterday and today are great. Well done too MWEB for making such a big change in just two days.

I just wish i could actually get my account sorted out. Wait on the phone for extremely long times, can never get hold of anyone who can actually fix the problems. Extremely fustrated.

Problems: Requested account to be only activated from 1 April 2010, as i currently have an account, email address assigned was incorrect.

My account has been billed a pro rata amount of R808.50 on one invoce and R630.00 on another. They will not change this until they have gone through the phone records WTF?

Took 3 days to get the email address sorted out, and then they politly change my password, i phone to find out what password to use, after 45 mins, eventually I can log on.

I only hope this service gets better, because this amount of fustration is no worth it.

Guys, please join the Facebook group "Free The Web South Africa" or http://www.facebook.com/FreeTheWebSA and post your issues there as well.
That group has close on 20,000 people in it, let them see the issues you having, let your voice be heard.

Right now, it's like 50 or so people are seeing the posts and complaining, I suggest you let MORE people see the issues!

Join me!

In the same breath, you should also make sure you give credit where its due when you're happy. Normally people don't do that, but perhaps is a good plan to give these pioneers a leg up on the public forum.

Goto the site, look for "ME" and you'll see that I have done this! :) (if you don't know who I am, you're blind as a bat!)

Now, is it just me or did everyone notice that at EXACTLY 3pm, 400KB/s dropped to 200KB/s ?!?
I'm watching my graph and at exactly 3pm, speeds halfed.

Good on you ;) Just making sure the subscribers here are being fair in public. My speeds have been great (not full speed, but manageable), on torrents especially. I've downloaded SUSE in just over a day on 512K so I'm a happy camper.

Hi guys.

Just a quick question that I hope one of you could help me out with. I phoned mweb yesterday and spoke to a consultant. I asked her if torrents and P2P was allowed on the new unshaped packages and she told me categorically that they were not allowed.

But I have a little browse on here today and find this thread where people are talking about torrent download speeds etc. So I would just like some clarification... Are torrents permitted on the Mweb all inclusive uncapped packages, or not?

TIA
Chris

They are most definitely allowed, all day everyday. Their performance will be degraded if the network is overworked (giving priority to normal HTTP, so you can expect "after hours" to run at full speed.

Their T&C's are currently being rewritten in simpler terms, when those are released you will get a more conclusive answer.

Well, remember I said they throttled "me" at 3pm, while it's 6pm now and the pipes have been opened again.

Wonder why the 3 hour "throttling" ?

Did it only happen to me or did it happen to everyone or am I the only sucker monitoring?

Ya same, if mweb can continue like the performance today, It will be a great package!

@gdiza I think if you say do 2GB in 2 hours you get throttled down to lower speed and then 3 hours later it gets lifted like QOS
