MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

To be fair I currently have torrents running at around 150kBps, Jdownloader at around 40kBps and a file hosted on Meguaload running at 180kBps odd.... so.... All the bandwidth being utilized over a spectrum of protocols..

ok guys i called Mweb and the lady i spoke to seemed completely oblivious to the trial accounts, i eventually got through to a sales rep and after quoting the email i was sent about being able to pay the difference she said there should be no problem with paying the difference! Gonna do it as soon as i get home from work today

man, Mweb application for uncapped is more detailed than i thought....credit vetting..payslips...telkom account docs...faxing back and forth...

for AFRIHOST all i have to do it ''click'' a buttton to upgrade and their application process was not as detailed!

You could also just go through openweb for the mweb accounts. Less hassel

what is people's experiences with stream 480p or 720p on YouTube?

@ william riker

Upgraded from Mweb capped to MWeb uncapped. Without asking the sales rep told me the difference in charges are calculated pro-rata.

Hi guys, just thought I'd add my experience so far.
I purchased the MWEB 384 uncapped on Thursday. During most of that day I was getting full speeds on torrents (both local and international) and I got decent pings on local game servers (CSS, Heroes Of Newerth and COD 6).
My torrent speeds ranged between 30kbps and 35kbps.
Now since Friday morning my torrent speeds have ranged from 10kbps and 20kbps. Pings in games fluctuate from 70 to 999 which is crazy...
Browsing is fine and streaming is fine although it does suffer on higher quality videos - it is a 384k line after all.

Has anyone else noticed a decline in torrent speeds?

I was peaking at about 400 KB/s when the special launched, this dropped to approx 52 KB/s when they switched profiles to 512 as advertised.

I'm now peaking at about 25KB/s on both torrents, nntp and http (rapidshare premium).

I'm guessing the network may be a big congested this weekend.

Post I made in the Q&A thread, where people are also talking about speeds / experience instead of doing it here:

@mweb - webpages more often than not, do not load! what kind of an internet experience am i supposed to expect? I'm getting extremely frustrated.. its the weekend.. I'm paying R900 a month and i cant even surf a couple pages... they either take too long to load.. or just time out altogether.. i mean really what is the point? Is anyone else experiencing similar problems? maybe its just my router / dns settings or something....
I havent had any such problems . I just browsed quite a few sites now, locally and internationally, and all work. Whenever I have browsed normally on uncapped, I have not had any problems, other than that one night I already mentioned. All sites load fairly fast for me.
Give Tech Support a call if it stays like this, maybe something else is wrong on your side. Also try restarting your router.
I get through to IMDB, just fine, but I can't speak for all protocols but news.mweb.co.za is dead in the water AGAIN...I honestly hope they are upgrading, cause otherwise they use the term "engineer" too loosely...

On telkom, the news server: news.mweb.co.za resolves to 196.28.78.229 and that runs (edit:ran for a few minutes) full speed

5 Days remaining before the 1st of April to stay or cancel.
If news.mweb.co.za resolves to that IP, then you are not on Telkom. On MWEB's backbone it will resolve to that IP, which means you are then on the MWEB network, not Telkom's.
I am also using news.mweb.co.za atm, although it is not very fast @ 50KB/s, I am also streaming Youtube with no buffering, and I am playing online games (international EU) with an average ping of 450ms.

Some of the Youtube vids I streamed, while playing online games (warning - some contain strong language, violence):

The new MWeb backbone routing table seems to have an excessive number of hops to some destinations (presumably as part of the shaping and load balancing). For example 14 hops to www.iol.co.za which is a local site based in the same city as me!

This lengthy routing (and congestion) seems to cause some sites to timeout, which was something that we had gotten used to not happening. Likely to be teething problems...

I'm paying close to R600pm for 4Mbps (5GB cap), so I'm also a bit peeved...
Uhm. The # of hops is not indicative of slow loading or anything. If you are getting good pings, low latency and good thruput, then it is not a problem.
I traced to www.iol.co.za and also got 14 hops, but my ms is very low, in the 30ms-50ms on each hop.
Browsing is also perfect with no problems.

Some speed and ping tests...

During all these tests and when I was browsing, I am online with my game and I am downloading from news.mweb.co.za @ 50KB/s

Not too shabby if you ask me.

my take on things - i actually commend the mweb network if the kind of load i imagine it to be taking is the reality. the next 2 months are likely to be filled with a lot of inconsistency as users get that download the internet thing out of their system.

but i m actually generally quite happy with the service (having moved from the axxess express+).

wow, my free mweb 512 account is maxing at 60kb/s!
i'm impressed...
i liked it much better when they gave use free 4mb,

when i had that account, i was maxing 438kb/s!

until they downgraded me to 512...
