MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

No, they said regular browsing wouldn't be shaped. However MediaFire, RapidShare and the like are subject to their all seeing eye packet sniffer dogs, which offer essentially the same service as downstorm is and are therefore shaped.

Why would I want to do that? Just because Mweb's Uncapped accounts are shaped doesnt mean that I should move over to another ISP and get unshaped capped. Mweb made it clear that HTTP would never be shaped and that it always got the highest priority. Now all of a sudden they are changing their minds because some1 figured out a way to download torrents files over HTTP? No, Im sorry, thats complete rubbish. If they are shaping downstorm, then they are in fact shaping HTTP, and if they are shaping HTTP, then they are in fact.... false advertising.

If I am correct Rapidshare is also HTTP and thats been shaped since the start, they just seem to be adding more sites to the shape lists...

As for what they said or didn't say, someone needs to go research that and post links... I don't know what they said and am too lazy to check.

The MWeb Terms & Conditions page says that browsing is high-priority, not HTTP. That is your (wrong) interpretation:
http://www.mweb.co.za/legalpolicies/ProductsServices/ADSLTerms2010/tabid/1918/Default.aspx

2.14 Shaped means that traffic is prioritised and channeled in a specific order, for example web browsing and email traffic will be prioritised;

Ouch, oh well it would seem it was only a matter of time until MWEB showed true colours. I can't believe I defended the company during the weekend, and now to have this happen with HTTP downloads.

Yip, I feel your pain. Its like their dial-up before the "revolution". Corporate sleaze bags is what i think...

So now what service is there to use for unshaped downloading

Yay Downstorm download is already a whopping 10kb/s faster :D ... going strong at 160-170kb/s now!

I can see the shaping, aka throttling, kicking in on my whole line with the graph from utorrent... I have my http limited to 10kb/s when i stop it my torrents go up. Looks like I am getting shaped aka throttled to about 50% on my entire line including browsing. 384k uncapped consumer.

Something's definitely wrong with MWeb at the moment. I just did a speedtest and I usually get 3.46Mb/s to Johannesburg, but tonight I can only get 2.1Mb/s. On my webafrica and afrihost prepaid accounts I get 3.46Mb/s. I'm starting to suspect that Mweb's network has reached saturation point. Maybe it's all downhill from here.

Fine, then 1) Browsing 2) Email 3) HTTP

The T&C's cover just about anything MWeb need to do do avoid users abusing the network. If a majority of users started doing downloads via HTTP it would grind to a halt for the others...

12.5 You may not restrict, inhibit or interfere with the ability of any person to access, use or enjoy the Internet or the ADSL Services, or create an unusually large burden on our network or otherwise generating levels of traffic sufficient to impede others' ability to send or retrieve information, or use the ADSL Services in an abusive manner.

Just ran a speedtest and there seems to be something strange happening...

Anyone else also have similar results?

Very good idea, running it now as well... although i think maybe the results can be a bit off due to the problems with mweb's network tonight.
