MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

It would appear these 'Super Grans' are deleting my posts lol - Pathetic!!

Is it too much to expect to get good serviced for the service you pay for?

I mean really now? I'm not talking about rapidshare, megaupload, hotfile or any of those, i'm talking about pure HTTP, FTP protocols, traffic that would otherwise never be shaped. Even my RDP and telnet protocols are way way way slower that usual. SMTP has slowed to a standstill................
So with all these people with these blanket statements like ' oh hell you shoulda read the fine-print about shaping ' i say . . . . get a life and perhaps a little more education. I'm not as stupid as to just complain without performing every and all tests at my disposal before venting. My complaint is directed at both my international and local bandwidth - i just crapped out almost R2000 today for MWEB and telkom etc etc and what sort of service am i getting????

MWEB has been 'fine' all along.....but one never remembers the good or 'fine' when one experiences nothing but 'BAD' for days on end ....right? Fluctuating, unpredictable and unstable service may be better than no service at all.....but.... realistically wouldnt it be nice if things just weren't the way we've gotten used to.

+1 Rouxenator - Afrihost huh?

+1 who.is.micahel - you know where i'm venting from and i agree - let MWEB fukkk up what they're good at fukkkking up - DIALUP

Yeah, go try Afrihost and see how different they are :p

I managed 350GB in May - I wound not be able to do that on any other package (including dail-up) so I think M-Web uncapped is great. Sure it is below 30kb/s at times and sometimes there is downtime, but overall it is unbeatable. If you don't like it and need 24/7 99.99% uptime with full speed go get yourself one of those capped unshapped account that sell for R90 per GB, uncapped just ain't made for that kind of service levels.

I have various capped accounts - including a telkom 1GB account - thats the reason for my vent - when i use my Telkom account i get awesome and expected speeds - when i use my MWEB account....i get....crap...for lack of a better word. Thanks for the tip though - will give 'em a call in the morning.

Your telkom 1GB account will do 1GB in a month, these M-Web accounts have been know to reach 350GB and beyond in a month, all you have to do is cope with the occasional shaping, throttling and outage.

Yeah...i'm totally aware of that - i used my Telkom account as a process of elimination in testing my speed issue. i know for a certainty that my speed issue is NOT line related now 'cos i get expected speed using my telkom account......but my speed drops down to a paltry <50Kb/s using my MWEB account.....

Yes, and since it is an uncapped shaped account costing about R500 per month it should do that. I have seen mine drop below that at times actually.
If you want full speed all the time you are going to have to cough up R2400 per month for their Internet Addict or Business package.

It really is that simple. Remember that with all things in live you get what you pay for, and you can really have anything you like - if you can pay for it.

Good luck - hope you find some. I was joking about Afrihost though, they are much worse than Mweb though, check their contract and you will see their throttling terms. They are a little cheaper though.

I knew you were being sarcastic about Afrihost- played along with the sarcasm. thanks anyways.....see i'm being decent about it. Theres ALWAYS alternatives.....throw money at a problem and it goes away. Cheers!

Before you complain about MWeb Uncapped

This should actually be sticky or something - but here goes.

Before you compain about MWeb Uncapped please take a look at the following image :
mweb.jpg

There are three options for uncapped, you are most likely on the first one and NOT the Green or Red ones.

If you are NOT on Green or Red then you WILL experience the following from time to time :

  • Connection speeds that are below 10% of your line capacity
  • Peer to Peer speeds that are below 10% of your line capacity
  • Mass download sites (Rapid share, hotfile, sharing materix, etc) below 10% of your line capacity
  • Outtage on international connection and sometimes on local connection
  • Very high ping times

THIS IS NORMAL - if you are NOT on Green or Red options!

If you would like ALL of those problems to go away then please start paying 4x more because Green or Red options are specifically DESIGEND for :

  • Unshaped ADSL Bandwidth – Optimal internet access with all your internet activity
  • Ideal for Gaming, VoIP Applications and Large Downloads
  • Enjoy Improved contention ratios
  • Experience faster uploads and downloads than the normal (Shaped) ADSL service
  • No delay in traffic downloads, perfect for online trading and Peer to Peer Applications
  • Use as much data as you like

So to make problem solving for you easy - if you are not on a Green or Red package you should upgrade to one before you complain about not having the things you get on Green or Red packages.

Rouxenator... if you post things like that then people won't get frustrated and leave man. Think with your bandwidth!

Although yeah, that should probably be around somewhere...

ADSL Usage - (June, 2010)
You have used 49.85 GB so far this month.
Last Session: 03 June, 2010, 00:19:12

Lol, you guys just dont know how to use the system :D

Sensou it depends
you are probably on 4096 account I'm on 384
so if you did 49GB then you did less than I did by getting 5.5GB since your line is more than 10 times as fast as mine

The theoretical limit on 4mbps is 1.3TB in a month, but to get that I think you will need to be on one of the unshapped uncapped packages and no one here is gonna spend R2500 when they could get everything they want for R550 on a shaped account.
