How is that Possible i have a 512your-exspress account and im lucky if i get 1GB a day...

Well 40Kb/sec for 24 hours is 3.3GB, so it's juust possible if you've got a good http link running all day. Damn good work though.

Just as a reference I've been on a 384 line for four months now and monitor maximum speed and most productive download quite closely.
The fastest download I've ever seen is 38kb/s and the most I've downloaded in 24 hours is 2.2 gigs.
A run of the mill day will produce around 1.2 gigs.

What the hell is going on with Mweb today! Their network is falling apart, I can barely browse, speedtest even fails to do a test, AND they have shaped my ftp.

Hi necr0mancer.

I believe that you dealt with one of our reps earlier today, the ftp that you're referring to resides on a provider advertising itself as a torrent VPS provider. It is our policy to shape these services. I am concerned about the other problems you're reporting though. I'll follow up with the team tomorrow and make sure that you get assistance.

Ha ha ha busted! :)

Lol! Then I guess I need to start looking for a new VPS provider :P I wonder if Mweb are going to shape every company that hosts servers.

And for the record, they advertise hosting solutions. Dedicated servers, managed and unmanaged, VPS's etc.

You realize that if you bulk download by bypassing the shaping you will get yourself whacked with the Ban Hammer?

Ok, i tried reading through all the pages of this post, but i cannot.
So lets get this straight MWEB is shaping pretty much every type of download service - news/torrents/rapidshare shares?
Are they shaping international gaming services?
Seems like they are shaping youtube - yes/no?

The reason i ask this, is that i just applied for my 4meg line - moving to a house that acutally has adsl available. Changing from iBurst, which doesn't seem to shape gaming, and definitely don't shape rapidshare.
Now then should i sign up for the uncapped with MWEB, or look for somebody else? I do play CoD locally and WoW (US servers) and use rapidshare.
Which ISP will provide the best speed/latency for these?

MWEB has specifically stated that they don't shape gaming ports
if you find that the games you are playing is shaped then send Will@MWEB the details
(server addresses, port number and so forth) and they will look at getting un shaped.

Youtube doesn't seem shaped to me, if you'll be on 4Mb videos generally load fine.

They definitely shape rapidshare, quite bad during the day and the free service goes at about +-130Kb "after hours" (which isn't exactly normal office hours). This is about what I used to get on a capped account as well though. If you have an account with Rapidshare it should be faster but I'm not sure myself.

I'd just like to apologise to my fellow Mweb Users. :D

I was forced to rape my line for my 10Gig download of Borderlands from Steam yesterday, sorry for the inconveniance, you may now resume your petty lives :p

Only kidding folks but it did come down nice and quick!

8 GB so Far ...

Slow Downloads and Streaming

Anyone else experiencing problems over the last few days, particularly with audio streaming and/or downloading mp3 (podcasts). I'm on 384kbps uncapped and pods usually download at line speed. For the last few days many have been downloading much slower (less than 10K/s). This morning I couldn't even stream a local radio station which streams at 2K/s -- it buffered every 5 seconds. Last.fm is back to it's old stuttering days. Are we back to all sharing the same dial-up modem out of the country? :)

PS: before anyone gets hysterical and tells me that 10K/s is actually fast for "downloads", remember that downloading a 20-50MB pod over HTTP is different to torrenting/sharing a 4GB movie :)
