And what pray tell is going to happen on the 1st? :)

MWEB Operations said:
We are moving our customers off the SAIX Wholesale network back onto our own network as part of our upgrades. The last of those migrations will happen on Monday next week and the upgrades should all be done by the 1st week of October.

:)

BTW, technically, I dont think "1st week of October" translates strictly into the "1st of October". So wait till about the 5th (at the latest?) I think...

Am I right about that Mweb Op?

I have been waiting all day for Civilization 5 to come down via Steam. i seem to be bouncing between 40k and 80k and its been like this for days with general netspeeds. I changed to my webafrica account for a few minutes and i was hitting 350k. wow latency is also on the rise. how sad :(

Oops. 5th it is then. Although i have found a loophole in the speed i CAN get, so right now, been going extremely strong.

I got so sick of the slow speed with MWeb that I've opened a 384 uncapped lite account with Openweb, boy what a difference! Immediately my torrent download came through at 35Kb/s compared to the 4Kb/s I was getting minutes before with MWeb. My question to MWeb is this: if there is some sort of technical problem because of a changeover or what ever, then why have your subscribers not been told of this? I read here that things will improve in early October, is this true MWeb or are these new throttled download speeds going to be the norm from now on? I would like to know as the end of the month is nearly upon us and if this slowness is going to be the normal thing from now on then I'm out of here and want to hand in my thirty days notice before October comes. To quote part of the MWeb advert for the 384 uncapped service it states: "Ideal for video calling, downloads and running a small office". At the present time downloads are a joke. I know a 384 connection is not the worlds fastest but it should be better than MWeb are currently supplying; in fact I know it is as evidenced by my new Openweb connection! Come on MWeb, we would like some explanation here please.

Just my 2 cents - figures from last night till now.

I think were all waiting for the the 'fix' in October. I also don't just think its a were cutting account from SAIX back to Mweb so there will be speed problems How long does it take to move accounts back and why should this have any impact on speed? If I use the @mweb or @dslmweb I"m still throttled to a max of 50Kbs now (on a 4Mbps line) Clearly there are technical problems?

Can anyone tell me how much they've managed to do on their 384 line this month?

57.14Gb

Torrent were EXCELLENT all night and this morning. Seems to have slowed down a little bit now, but still acceptable. Just hoping it stays like this.

EDIT: I think I jinxed myself...

*bangs head on desk*

Good afternoon everyone

I understand that the shaping on peer to peer is causing you some frustration right now, but we need to try and ensure that other services have a smooth experience while we finalize the network upgrades, which as stated will be done by the first week of October.

Please understand that as always we are giving as much as we are able to to peer to peer without impacting on the overall performance.

Thanks
Will

Pooky PM me the best number to reach you on tomorrow morning - let's see if we can work together to get you some answers.

I don't understand because it's very erratic - now it's gone down again to 350!

Tomorrow I am working the whole day, can we try for Tuesday?

The problem with the ping is generally only at night after 6 and the weekends though.

Those are the times when people use the internet most. It seems like a bandwidth limitation thing once again. Mweb loading too many people on and then setting the shaper to make sure the browsing is within limits. Everything else goes pear shaped.

Hi Lounger

I think we're fairly confident that Pooky's problems are on the last mile portion of the network.

Pooky, let's talk on Tuesday then - in the meantime if you do have an open Tellkom fault number please PM it to me - it makes it much easier to get feedback.

I Am also getting poor speeds from MWEB at the mo. only maxing at 95 kbps and that is running through mweb local news server. is this it or will it be back up to the 350, 400's we used to get?

Bit of an odd but necessary question here:

Recently moved over to the 384 Uncapped Unshaped package (Internet Addict) and am I correct in my understanding that on this package I'd not have to worry about being considered "abusive" no matter how much or by what methods I download? That is, even if I download via HTTP/HTTPS for 24/7 the entire month would this be acceptable/safe considering it is the considerably more expensive package?
