Slow here too on 4mb Uncapped :/ Youtube sucks, normal browsing sucks, pretty much everything sucks to be honest..

Usually have no complaints, but it's been the last few days now..

Happened to me the other day, then i checked my router and it was only syncing at 2 meg :D.

I checked my router when I saw this, considering I've always been getting 400KB/s - and bam, my ADSL is sync'ing at 8MB so it's a MWEB issue, not that'd they would admit to it.

i am getting 100-130KB/s whole day so far on news server (astraweb). had one or two downtimes but 99% of the time i got 100-130KB/s. i do not mind these speeds during the week, but hey ITS WEEKEND!!!! i hope mweb sort the issues out fast.

I want to know why www.gog.com is being shaped. A download speed of 3KB/s on an http download is ridiculous. And yes MWEB, you are shaping it because the same download on our Web Africa account is doing 40KB/s.

12:30 and still shaped to hell and back. The only time I got a full speed connection was at 1pm today for 2 hours :(

Whatever Mweb did then they need to reinstate!

i decided to check in how things are going in here since i moved to openweb uncapped gold.

i can only say you get what you pay for. no regrets of having left mweb. still thank them for shaking up the industry though.

@Rouxenator I'm really sorry to hear that you feel that way.
Not as sorry as I am to complain about it. For months I have been promoting Mweb and I am really sorry because it was a wasted effort.

We certainly do care and a massive amount of effort has gone into getting these upgrades completed as fast as possible.
Wish I could believe that...

The local bandwidth upgrades are complete, barring some teething issues which were outside of our control that the networks team are doing their utmost to resolve.
Yes.... to try and resolve Monday maybe at 10am after the 2nd cup of coffee. It is pretty clear no one is working on it this weekend.

We are increasing our international capacity by a substantial amount and we again will be pulling out all the stops to get this work completed hopefully by next weekend.
Ah, well my arrogant rant that they might have it fixed my Wednesday because they are all on weekend now was right then. Too bad I can't find the keys to my Delorean time machine and hop forward to next weekend because the connection this weekend is crap.

Believe me if there was anything else within our power that we could be doing right this minute to increase the speed of your downloads, we would be doing it.
But of course. I do believe you. Except its weekend so that cancels it out then I guess.

Pics or it ain't happening.

EDIT :
The connection does seem a thousand times better than before - HTTP is full speed and torrents go up beyond 200kb/s. But I'm not breaking out the champers just yet - lets see if it lasts. Perhaps there is a chance that you have redeemed yourself and I may live to yet again sing praise to Mweb. Just keep up my fast connection.

So you have finally broken it.
A 512 Line, that was working perfectly and completely coherent for 3 months at an average of 52,5kb/s has been reduced, shaped, and prioritised down to an incoherent wreck bumbling and staggering along at a miserly 18kb/s on an http download.
And i can watch it happen, start a download and it jumps in at about 45kb/s to slowly dripple down to nothing.
Started on Friday evening and has been the same since, with constant timeouts on webpages as well.
Maybe you are trying to bring us on par with neighbouring countries such as Zambia and Zimbabwe, who have the slowest internet in the world at 0.27Mbps and 0.39Mbps respectively.
How wonderfully 3rd world............oops , oh wait this is the 3rd world isnt it

@everyone - I finally understand shaping

Its when bandwidth is stolen from the little guy to support the big guy

Woohoo! 0.5k/s on a four meg line! Worth every cent that I'm paying for this connection!

This is preposterous! My speed are all over the place! Come on guys, seriously! There was NOTHING wrong with my connection before all these "upgrades" began. Now everything is screwed up again. I was getting decent enough (although not even remotely what I should be getting!) speeds yesterday but today, at 4 in the morning, I can't even get a constant 20k/s.

*sigh* I'm going back to bed.

I have to say, I see a lot of complaints for Saturday here. I had hell with Vodacom 3G the entire day. Lost complete signal, then only Edge speed, even when forcing UMTS, this went on for hours. After making connection I had timeouts to most international sites, local was fine. I think something is stuffed somewhere and the operators aren't mentioning it. IMO>

Why do we have to put up with this crappy service? They(mweb) can do just what they want to and we have to put up with this. How does cellc option look like? wireless not adsl or what

Another night of bad speeds!

Got a reply from the call I logged on Fri morning.....does the helpdesk not even read what was logged???!!!

I report NNTP traffic is being so severely shaped 24x7 - if I switch to another account I get full speeds so the problem is on Mweb's side - I get this response:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

If the problem in question has been present for a long time period and permanent in nature, I suggest that you check the ADSL speed of your connection via the option as found from the website below to get an idea if it is line related:
http://www.gam.co.za/index.php?class=page&objectID=4888add306302
If the above yields a much lower speed compared to the ADSL line speed that you rent from Telkom, then I suggest that you contact Telkom ADSL on the number below to check the connection of your local ADSL exchange or to verify that no problems are currently being encountered with that exchange or the line you connect to for line noise, signal loss, noise on the line, attenuation. And ask them to recreate your ADSL port.:0800 375 375
Please contact us should you require any further technical assistance.

:wtf:

Is europe.news.astraweb.com working for anyone? I don't get any connection to this server.

Updated Server Connection Settings

It has been over a year and a half ago that we mentioned we would be phasing out older connection details in order to make things simpler and more consistent.
The following hostnames/server addresses are no longer supported. If you are using any one of these names to connect to our servers then please use the settings as listed in the "Current Settings" section.

Deprecated Server Addresses:
======================
- pbdl.news.astraweb.com
- europe.news.astraweb.com
- secure.news.astraweb.com
- eu.secure.news.astraweb.com
- us.secure.news.astraweb.com

Current Settings
============
These are the settings that remain valid for use:

General Servers (Non SSL) on ports 119, 23, 1818 or 8080:
- news.astraweb.com
- eu.news.astraweb.com (European servers)
- us.news.astraweb.com (U.S. servers)

Secure Servers (SSL) on ports 443 or 563.
- ssl.astraweb.com
- ssl-eu.astraweb.com (European servers)
- ssl-us.astraweb.com (U.S. servers)

Even with these updated settings I could still not get a stable connection to Astraweb - SSL or otherwise. Every now and then it would have a spike of traffic, but only for a second. They work perfectly fine on my Axxess Lite account, however. I am incredibly disappointed as I am paying for a service which I am completely unable to utilise on my Mweb uncapped account.

Thanks very much gregmcc, eu server working. Funny thing is that europe was still working 7 days ago. It's the server from where I download headers.

This is the speed i am getting Download Speed: 3364 kbps (420.5 KB/sec transfer rate) but on newshost 11kbs its very dodgy mweb is making a lot of enemies
