:D My speeds improved following the upgrades this past weekend!

Mweb 4/10Mbps is flying, including during office hours. I can stream youtube in HD, no buffering. HTTP downloads are always perfect.

I have only been with MWeb for a few months but I have had no problem what so ever since signing up! They have made living in SA that much better!

So I guess you have been upgraded to 10Mbps...and indirectly your HD streaming affects all users on the MWEB network
My point is that the shaping is just weird, now with the new Telkom upgrades and all it makes a huge difference in available bandwidth

His MWeb account/line will still be at 4mb, the same as everyone.

Mweb Needs to stop blaming Telkom for the problems, Telkoms network was upgraded for the Soccer world Cup especially for the internet ( For TV stations (CNN, SKy,etc),etc) so the telkom network is at this stage 100% working on the internet side. I have seen the telkom Control Centre where Telkom can at any time see there network in real time and they have no problems at the moment. the only thing that they are doing is doing upgrades but they do that in stages and bring only bring the upgrade live when i has been completed. Besides line theft the Telkom network is up and running 100%.

Mweb should stop passing the buck and admit they have problems, even the telkom engineers that sit onsite at telkom just laugh when they see the problems at the Mweb Centre.

Before users accept Mwebs explanations , you should ask yourself, why when you are on a capped account don't you have any issues when downloading and struggle with speeds.

It is time the Mweb users say up to here and no further, Mweb is breaking their agreement with their customers when users have to struggle to use a service where on some service like the 4mb account it costs them R899 permonth but only getting speeds of a dailup account. Mweb needs to be sued and taken to Court for giving a false service, i believe they call it Fraud when you pretend to give something and then not deliver that service but still take the money.

@ MWEB Re: NNTP Shaping

Since the past upgrades on your network speed on internatioanl news servers (Supernews and Astraweb) has really been bad. Now I do understand that the uncapped shaped packages are just that, shaped and HTTP and e-mail takes priority and all that. I also realise that their are some Telkom related network problems ongoing.

There are occasions when the capacity of our news servers comes under strain. What we do know though is that the function of newsgroups has been replaced by far more effective services like forums and p2p. In reality it’s only a very small number of users who access our news servers and it doesn’t make sense for us to spend more money on an outdated technology, when there is a viable alternative readily available.

While I am currently having issues, if I chose to 'fight' Mweb, I would simply stop using their service.

I am pretty sure they have their arses well covered legally anyway.

Agree with you i do. That, and i highly doubt nicomz has about 600M rand to spend in legal fee's;)

Thanks for the reply, but as per my post, I am not referring to the MWEB news server. I make use of a paid subscription service from Supernews, which is the only service I am interested in and therfore my enquiry about the shaped speeds to an internationally hosted news server, and not the speed the MWEB news server can deliver.

Why to fight them do you have to stop using their service. You need to fight sothat they they give you the service you are paying for 24/7 not only when it pleases them.

All i need is user list of people that are not happy with mweb to take them on. It is time they get forced to give us the service we are paying them every month for.

They need to stop bull****ting users, and trust me the easiest way to get through to a company is when there problems starts to apear on tv (news) and in newspapers. Because people thinking of going with mweb would reconsider in return affecting mweb financially.

Yup, and if he/she did, why does he/she have MWEB uncapped instead of Some super speed link to NASA network 1GB fibre bla bla connection.

See I'm not interested in fighting about the service MWEB's uncapped shaped accounts deliver for uses such as NNTP. I understand that it is a shaped service, and I understand that it is necessary. All I am trying to find out is what I can expect in term of average speed, i.e. 10 kBps, 20 kBps, or whatever. That will enable me to decide whether I have use for the product or not. Currently I have absolutely no clear indication of what to expect. I do know it is not what it was before, but the question that remains unanswered for me is: What will it be now?

Semaphore, legal costs will never get to 600m+, that i can tell you now. the bad publicity will be enough to harm mweb. And besides if someone does not take on them, Mweb users will just be milked even further by Mweb. Also i dont own Big Companies for nothing. I have enough money to take mweb on and have money left over to enjoy life.

Mweb are by far the best value for money Shaped Uncapped Service providers in the country, stop complaining and trying to incite some sort of a "coo". As you say "more money than them" so move to a full business uncapped account from an isp that isnt mweb and stop being a twat.

Why move to another service, i pay them so they must give me what i am paying them. it like buying a car, what will you do if you buy a car like a ferrari and thinking that you will get 300km/h only get 160 because they have a problem with the fuel comany so you must now be satisfied with that and not top speeds. I am not trying to incite some sort of "coo", but users need to stand up against companies that only cares about the monthly debit order and nothing else.

No users need to take a step back and realise, you get what you pay for. You pay for a shaped uncapped service, you get "Suprise, suprise" an uncapped service. For some one with so many "Big companies" you have a very dim view of how business works.
