73k/sec on STEAM now.. nearly 9pm. Seriously MWEB, how about some feedback?

Just addin' my positively spun 2C:)

All fine my side - in Durbz. Fully capable of running at line speed, seemingly proving again that the fluctuations in performance are regional.

Haven't had a single bad surfing or DL experience since the upgrade with MWeb - Although my DL's like almost everyone else's ground to a halt for days before the Saturday night upgrade..

Im a Durban 384k user happy with News Server speeds, torrents are a different story though,

Yeh P2P seems to run at optimum from about 11pm to around 7am. (between 30 and 35kb/s) picks up progressively from 5pm. (Kloof)

Well, things are definitely looking up. Below, the torrent speeds i've been getting:

I was wondering though, how is it that torrents that are well seeded and have a good ratio seem to be very slow to get going; whereas those that have been around blitz (sort of)? Is it possible that things only speed up once people locally fetch the content? I'm just postulating.

Torrents chugging along at 4.7k. Wooo. Some terrifying stuff here - hope I don't run out of stuff to download.

I'll see how it looks tomorrow morning - hopefully it will pick up sometime after I go to bed. Failing that, Mweb has had enough time to get things right. It sucks but I'll be off :(

Hi AntiThesis,

Please monitor and see if the speed increases at all during the course of the evening, if not, let us know

@MWEB Operations - seriously you're not even going to bother replying or commenting to other posts made a little earlier by myself and others regarding shocking speeds????

Browsing and non-P2P downloads are slow as all hell - isn't that supposed to be unshaped and/or prioritized? Surely that's indicative of a problem and worthy of a reply or an update?

Firstly, this doesn't make much sense. Obviously, if your servers are under strain then there are more than 'a very small number of users who access the news servers'?

Secondly, you made a promise that after the upgrades due to finish the past weekend, that access to the news servers would improve. Now you're telling us that that isn't the case, and not to expect much. Which is it?

Lastly, even if we're meant to be using p2p, I still get terrible speeds, none rising above 120kb/s on a 4Mb line.

Nope, not bothered to answer even though I've asked the same question twice.

MWEB news server speeds are quite acceptable at the moment (50kB/s), however I am a bit dissapointed with the internationaly hosted news server speeds, still only averaging at about 20 to 30 kB/s. Unfortunately MWEB news server's retention is not that long, and I am more reliant on Supernews / Astraweb for my needs. That said, I am grateful for the speed increase, just hope it stays or even improves a bit.

Keep fidling MWEB, it looks like you are on the right track, thanks :)

Had an awesome night torrenting.

Really strange behaviour from my connection last night:

It was really good for the first part of the evening. Nice, constant speeds on HTTP with downloads reaching almost 400k/s, but I was getting horrid latency in World of Warcraft at about 29000ms (no downloads running while I was playing).

Then, at about 21:30, everything died again. Browsing went for a ball of chalk (I couldn't even load a video in Youtube and standard resolution), but my pings in WoW dropped to sub 300.

*shakes head before slamming it on the desk* I think I spot a grey hair!

I will say one thing, if i was paying MWEB for a 4mb connection, which is what, R599? I don't know. I would throw ALL my toys out the cot if i even got one day where my connection acted like crap. Seriously, that is alot of money every single month for a service you are NOT getting. R219 on the other hand for my 384k is 'accepatable' because it's not a whole lot.

Any amount of money paid for a service that is not delivered, is too much in my opinion. I think the thing that gets to me most is the yo-yoing. I was so hopeful last night that it was sorted and I was very disappointed (once again) when it started dying.

This feels more like a downgrade than an upgrade, to be honest.

Dear MWEB Operations,
My connections so often you could tell the time by it. The Mweb call center ppl have not responded in two weeks.
Telkom say they see nothing wrong with my line and it should be working fine and i must check with my service provider.

If you read this andd choose to respond, please dont ask me to send you my details as i did that three weeks ago and you promised to have it investigated.
In general your levels of customer service are shocking and lack any consistancy. Ive had better luck dealing with telkom over the past few weeks!

The Pre "Upgrade" service was great and i could never complain.
