Seems more ppl are experiencing what xrapidx and I have been complaining about.

Remember it's a calendar month notice, so if you cancel now you'll only be free from Mweb 1 Jan 2011.

Well in my most humble and uneducated opinion I believe MWEB has run into capacity problems necessitating these drastic shaping measures. Now if MWEB's commitment to "freeing the web" can be taken as a guideline they might well be hunting for more capacity, which will obviously take some time, but should then see things return to normal.

However, if they in addition to capacity problems have also run into profitability problems, then we will in all likelihood not see any improvement in performance for some time. People will start leaving MWEB running to other ISP's, which is fair. I believe though that as the other ISPs start to get bloated they too will be faced with the same challenges, and it will start all over again.

Maybe there was some truth in what WA said some months back, time will tell I guess.

Guess the Local Peering issue has bumped their international bw requirements :)

MWEB brings its bad rep over itself. Yes the service is what it is because of reality but all the big promises only looks like lies eventually. Whether they were just being over-eager/stupid or deceitfull doesnt matter in the endgame. And really people, no matter what we might tell ourselves, we ALL knew we were gonna get "surprise but-sex" somehow.
Hahaha who are the bigger monkeys? The MWEB PR guys? Or the loudest mouths here?

Yip - all in the name of cheaper internet, but in the meantime, they'll charge us for a 4MB product and give us less than 386kB speeds.

I am also fed up with this. The last 2 days i switched back to my backup telkom accounts. And today my skype calls , site loading and video buffering is up to ****. I have three 4mb uncapped accounts and thats alot of money for such a pos bandwith account. Free the web my ass !!
Just not sure where to go if i leave them.

And.. I'm still flying, downloading the new Avatar 1080p 3 disc collector's edition, 146gb's, at 300kb/s..

Guess I'm just lucky :)

is speedtest shaped? lol

at home with my 512kps i download from filehippo.com they have dedicated servers so its full speed, i get 70kbs+, but with speedtest i get 0.55mbs :(

You're aware that a 512k line = about 0.55mbps, right?

Will@mweb or any mweb member, can you please look into this,I can understand shaping P2P content, but youtube shouldn't really be shapped to a unusable level, and I posted this at 11 at night, when the shaping shouldnt have been so heavy.

Dear Mweb,

Can you please look into improving video streaming, , once again tonight I have to buffer video on youtube running at 320p, this isnt acceptable as a 4 meg line should be able to do 720p at least on a bad day, let alone live streaming services like http://www.ustream.tv is completely unwatchable.

I'd disagree that 720p video should stream smoothly on a 4mb line, since the best 720p codecs currently use about 1.5gb/h.

That said, there's no excuse for a 320p video to not stream, perhaps call them and log a ticket? I've not had issues on my side.

Keep us updated please, if you find a solution it'd be great if you can share it so that if we have similar issues we don't need to follow every step you did :)

mmmm, think mweb shaping might be broken.
Getting between 300 and 400 kB/s at the moment during peak shaping time on torrents and newsgroups....
wonder how long that will last, hopefully till my downloads are all done by lunch time :)
