Not all international connections though. Google is inaccessible; other international sites are wokring.

I joined MWeb +- 2 weeks ago and have been struggling with Gmail ever since ....

Edit: A Bit more info on Gmail. It loads but I cannot get into any of my mail or folders. Gchat also not loading. (I have cleared my cache on firefox, IE and Chrome)

For all these free filehosting sites you should use JDownloader as your download manager. Lets you queue them up and does the "captcha" on rapidshare and megaupload for you. It resumes with a lot of those sites, I actually thought fileserve/sonic could resume with JDL seeing as I mostly download from them thesedays.. but then I don't think any have ever failed.

Can't access most web-sites now however. Using the IP I can still access google however. Got the ip with:
ping google.co.za

Gives me: http://209.85.227.106/

Your DNS server is messing up somewhere, looks to me.

WTF MWEB... no google?!! no youtube?!! and speeds that move slower than a corpse!

Disgusted!

Ok I've got it back up using OpenDNS, definitely a DNS problem on the MWeb network.

For those who want internet use the 2 following DNS servers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Switch back when the problem is resolved.

Something died on MWeb's Cape Town routing at 4pm, if the CINX traffic graph is anything to go by:
http://stats.cinx.net.za/

I also can't access the TENET-SEACOM graph which is hosted locally:
http://monitor.net.tenet.ac.za/cacti/graph_view.php?action=tree&tree_id=6&leaf_id=874

Edit: TENET graph seems to be working at 18h15, but routing is going via JINX now.

Something is broken, CINX traffic should be 5 hops maximum, and not go from CT to Jhb:
Code:
Tracing route to tenet.cinx.net.za [198.32.214.33]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

   1 <10 ms <10 ms <10 ms home.gateway [192.168.1.254]
   2 6 ms 7 ms 7 ms 41-132-48-1.dsl.mweb.co.za [41.132.48.1]

   8 tengig-0-0-0-0-11.vic-up-1.mweb.co.za [196.22.169.225]
  reports: Destination net unreachable.

Edit: Its not a DNS error AFAIK.

seriously i don't know what you guys are doing, but gmail, google and youtube is working fine for me from GP/PTA. must be area related...

Hi MWEB Operations

Please let me know what you guys are doing about your cache servers caching broken files. I have given MWEB a lot of praise over the last few months so I would not suggest that you ignore me. You never know when that praise turns into something else... especially with a loose cannon like me.

I have two more cache fails for you to fix :

Fail byte count : 75,654,615

Quick quick, I want answers post haste, quid pro quo, status quo and all that nonsense too.

going to try them right now.

:edit
it download fine without any issues without using a download manager, don't you have any examples that is not around 1gig ? i suppose you did download all 3 parts and not just part 3, trying to unzip that...

:edit
just to make sure we are looking at the same files here, i've searched for the one and got at a Hot Bdsm Collection link site, is that correct ?

No it is DNS related. If you don't know networks it is complicated to explain but in short the problem isn't the network going down. A real world analogy would be that the roads are fine but you cannot understand an address. The network is working but it cannot resolve the name (eg. google.com) to the IP address.

As I said, using OpenDNS everything is back to normal. Some areas may be unaffected and some people may have different DNS settings, some people may have cached hosts, etc. There are so many reasons why your internet could still work, however the network isn't down.

wel i'm using 3 dns servers at the moment. 1) mweb, 2) google primary and 3) google secondary.

Sorry, the problem (in CT anyway) has nothing to do with DNS! (BTW: I do know how DNS works...)

One of MWeb's links to CINX is broken, and traffic is now being routed via JINX:
Code:
Tracing route to tenet.cinx.net.za [198.32.214.33]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

   1 <10 ms 1 ms <10 ms home.gateway [192.168.1.254]
   2 7 ms 6 ms 6 ms 41-132-48-1.dsl.mweb.co.za [41.132.48.1]
   3 8 ms 9 ms 8 ms 196-28-178-166.adsl.mweb.co.za [196.28.178.166]
   4 8 ms 8 ms 8 ms 196-28-179-11.adsl.mweb.co.za [196.28.179.11]
   5 11 ms 9 ms 9 ms 196-28-178-97.adsl.mweb.co.za [196.28.178.97]
   6 92 ms 94 ms 94 ms gig-0-0-2.vic-hscore-3.mweb.co.za [196.22.169.49]
   7 61 ms 60 ms 65 ms 196.22.169.61
   8 44 ms 47 ms 53 ms tengig-0-0-0-0-11.vic-up-2.mweb.co.za [196.22.169.226]
   9 47 ms 49 ms 50 ms jx2621-1-S1-AP.mweb.net [196.22.163.5]
  10 32 ms 33 ms 34 ms tenet.jinx.net.za [198.32.142.33]
  11 34 ms 34 ms 34 ms tenet.cinx.net.za [198.32.214.33]

Trace complete.

The IP address is the same 198.32.214.33, but the routing has changed...

Edit: There is a gap in the TENET graph of SEACOM traffic, indicating that the break was probably on the TENET side of CINX. This break could have affected TENET traffic between Jhb and CT. I'm guessing, but Google may be cached on TENET, which would explain why MWeb (local) DNS users would fail...

Could be why yours is working. As I said, mine is working using OpenDNS whereas it did not using MWeb DNS.

Weird, solved the problem here. So using the Google IP ( http://209.85.227.106/ ) directly you get no result?

My gmail, youtube, google everything works now btw. I've viewed a video or two and I'm currently using gmail, sending emails and chatting.

Thanks, but it's working again :) Absolutely terrifying not having access to Google. I couldn't use the 'net :)
