It was dead as a dodo, did not ping or anything. Reset the mweb connection and it works. Meh...

I'm struggling though with mweb. I can often not connect to Steam. It get a message that there is either a problem with my internet or Steam servers are down. Now i know my internet is working because I can RDP home, so clearly that is fine. Steam also works, cause if I use a different ISP, voila.
It is extremely annoying. Then at times it does work fine, but then I can not browse anything or my torrents completely stop. It is almost as if there is not enough bandwidth, so some applications take priority.

512k line, running Steam, general browsing, torrents, logmein, AV updates randomly and this kills my line? doesn;t make sense. I understand the torrents being shaped, especially during the day, but wtf won't my steam connect?

If I close the torrents and wait a few minutes, steam will connect.

well den, yesterday steam was down for everyone*. i've tried it with webafrica and with mweb with same result : no connection. around 7pm or 8m it came on and i was able to pull about 10gigs of game data through it.

did you try chancing the shorcut to include -tcp at the end ex steam.exe -tcp ?

Please note that when doing torrent downloads that this normally kills news server downloads and slows down general browsing, please try doing torrent downloads when you are not reqired to run other applications at the same time.

STEAM UPDATE: We're tracking an issue with steams POP provider that caused global connectivity issues for Steam users yesterday, based on geographic location.
Steam identified the issue as a failure in some networking hardware and will have a momentary downtime in order to replace the failed hardware. The downtime for t...he switchover is scheduled for today and should be just a few minutes.

seems my speed is normal again, ran at +300 for torrents last night, took a plunge this morning as is to be expected but then they started up again by 10am.... been running at a steady 398-420kbs ever since, http was runnig at 350kbs this morning also, only the first of the month and im sitting on 14gb used all ready and counting

we should try a tracert to one of the steam login servers if we can find an ip for one or two and compare.

Surely 8 B/S isn't a real speed. There must be a problem somewhere between the source and your line.

What's up with MWeb SEACOM this morning? Latency to Europe is 360ms, and traffic is horrendously slow...

Just out of interest, the TENET-SEACOM graph just dropped to zero!?

Seacom is down. Fault in the SEA-MEA-WE-4 cable I believe.

I moved over to Mweb 384 unshapped uncapped and can report that it is utterly useless for browsing.

Yes, I have close all downloads, yes, I checked the firewall, only my browser is accessing the net. I have used an 384 unshapped product before and that was miles faster than this. Farmville is virtually unpayable...

Sorry Mweb, but this is not acceptable.
