Major issues with timeouts the last few days, makes gaming almost impossible, even on an mweb gamezone server... Other accounts work fine, its just my mweb account that freezes every 10-15 minutes.

Torrent speeds are horrible tonight, 10kB/s on 384k line. http fine, is something wrong with Durban speed test server getting over 900ms. Hope torrents are better tomorrow night.

@MWEB Operations - I just checked again and have noticed one heck of an improvement - Wow.

I'll monitor over night and let you know. Once again, thanks for your involvement.

torrents have been crawling all day at less than 100kbs, youtube streaming takes ages to buffer, seriously.... buffering a low res vid on a 4meg connection is PATHETIC to say the least, on top of that fileserve is now completely unusable for me, i have tested at all times of the day and night and consistently get speeds of +-20kbs, dropping as low as 7kbs in the early evenings, anyone else experiencing the same severe shaping of fileserve specifically? also i hope the mweb guys dont try to ignore my post.... would like some decent and honest feedback about why the service has taken such a nosedive, shaping i can understand.... but the days of having to buffer crappy low res youtube videos should be behind us.

I must say, over this Christmas season the speeds have been brilliant. On rapidshare and hotfile I am getting 1 mbs during the day, 2 mbs early evening, and hitting 4 mbs after 1am. Even on weekdays.
With everyone going back to work in the morning, it will be interesting to see if the daytime speeds go back to pre-December holidays.

hey mweb, im going to upgrade to the 4mb package today, as 512, is just not worth it.

Just wanted t know how long will it takes , and can send you my account details and you maybe let it happen faster? :)

yup , they are definitely shaping hectic again , suppose everyone back from holiday.

I'm so glad i moved to the 384 Unshaped package from the 512 shaped one. Although it cost R200 more, at least now I get constant 48 kBps 24/7 on NNTP (and I mean constant), as apposed to maybe hitting 62 kBps between 1am and 6am, and almost nothing the rest of the time.

Do you actually get an effective throughput of 48 kBps? That means you have a perfect line with no protocol overhead whatsoever :) Surely it's more like 40 kBps?

weird i just tried nntp for first time.

i know nttp get shaped also.

currently doing 42kps+ om my 512 line, connected to jhb-news.mweb.co.za. think i will do some more nntp, and see how it goes.

send email today to upgrade to 4meg ,hope to get it in this week :)

This guy is on a 512kbps line with a 384kbps account, I did the same with a 384kbps account on a 4mbps line, and got about 52kbps download speed (that is more than 384kbps) but i would say that M-Web (yes I'm with M-Web) does not throttle the protocol overhead inclusive, but rather just the PDU download rate.

EDIT: And then also they are very lenient to the throttling.

now i've been having some horrible issues since the weekend, not sure if its mweb or telkom...

Every so often i lose all connectivity... I cant access any site, nor ping nor tracert BUT my line doesnt lose sync nor does my adsl connection drop. If i do a soft reset of my router (a billion 400G - takes around 2mins), I have full connectivity again.

now i'm not really keen on spending r70 to buy a 1 gig account just to find out its my line or router. I'm a little suspect about the router since its automagically restarted itself a few times this weekend.

any ideas?

No it's not your router, i have also had the dead for 1 minute bug for the past couple of weeks.

Everything dies for about a minute or so. Not sure what it is but i doubt it is your router unless we just have similar symptoms with a different problem :D.

R 70.00 a gb? you need to change your supplier, i have a spare axxesslite 4gb account for that amount.

the problem is that it doesnt last for a minute... once i lose connectivity, it pretty much doesnt return... I was using the 512dsl2 network, but now i cant log into it since it says my username and password are invalid so i'm back on the dslmweb one...
