now i've been having some horrible issues since the weekend, not sure if its mweb or telkom...

Every so often i lose all connectivity... I cant access any site, nor ping nor tracert BUT my line doesnt lose sync nor does my adsl connection drop. If i do a soft reset of my router (a billion 400G - takes around 2mins), I have full connectivity again.

now i'm not really keen on spending r70 to buy a 1 gig account just to find out its my line or router. I'm a little suspect about the router since its automagically restarted itself a few times this weekend.

any ideas?

Use the telkom guest account and see if it still happens

still slow atm, torrent downloading at 20 kb/s (still 2 days left on my 5gb file) and downloading normal files at 60 kb/s (downloading 400mb patch)

Hmmm, definately feeling a bit slow at the mo. Whats up Mweb? It's close to midnight, can't be that high capacity?

No it's not your router, i have also had the dead for 1 minute bug for the past couple of weeks.

Everything dies for about a minute or so. Not sure what it is but i doubt it is your router unless we just have similar symptoms with a different problem :D.

R 70.00 a gb? you need to change your supplier, i have a spare axxesslite 4gb account for that amount.

Yeah, I've had it since Christmas. I thought it was a problem with my exchange but maybe not?

news server speed has plummeted, only managed to do about 400MB through the night

Why is the internet being so SLOW?! Every since yesterday morning.

Nothing bad to report on my side.. Had a lot of internal issues on my network yesterday that I thought was MWEB's fault though >.> ( Looped network cable on one of my switches.. )

Shaping was a little rough, but not worse than a month ago, and WoW achieved sub-300ms pings for an hour or two last night, settling around 500 in the late hours ( while I was downloading )

My mweb speeds are much slowwer than last year,

Before Christmas I would get full speed from astroweb from 1am to 6am.. now I am get around 200k.

Now in an evening I get only around 4 Gig where last year I would get around 7 Gig.

Mweb seems to be getting worse again..

Hi Coldon

I checked your line and your attenuation is a bit high; please have Telkom re-create your port. Please provide me the relevant feedback.

Field Result Description
ATUC Status No Defect There no defects on the line.
ATUC Current Rate 4064 kbps The current downstream speed established between the DSLAM and customer’s modem, e.g. 4096k, 512k or 384k.
ATUC SNR 12 dB The signal level compared to the noise level. A value above 6 dB indicates sufficient signal strength. The higher the signal value, the better. Does the customer have an electric fence? This could cause an increased in noise levels resulting in a reduction of this value.
ATUC Attenuation 28 dB Attenuation refers to resistance. If this value is high, then the signal quality is low, and vice versa. Is the customer far away from the exchange? Long copper lines could be the cause of attenuation. A value above 55 dB is of concern (bad).
ATUC Max Rate 4096 kbps The max downstream speed governed by the DSLAM at which it communicates to customer's router.
ATUC Min Rate 640 kbps The min downstream speed governed by the DSLAM at which it communicates to customer's router.
ATUC Alarm State No Alarm Is displayed if any faults are found on the DSLAM port.
ATUR Status No Defect There no defects on the line.
ATUR Current Rate 512 kbps The speed at which Router communicates to remote DSLAM, e.g. 384k, 128k.
ATUR SNR 12 dB The signal level compared to the noise level. A value above 6 dB indicates sufficient signal strength. The higher the signal value, the better. Does the customer have an electric fence? This could cause an increased in noise levels resulting in a reduction of this value.
ATUR Attenuation 54 dB Attenuation refers to resistance. If this value is high, then signal quality is low, and vice versa. Is the customer far away from the exchange? Long copper lines could be the cause of attenuation. A value above 55 dB is of concern (bad).
ATUR Max Rate 512 kbps The max upstream speed governed by the DSLAM at which it communicates to customer's router.
ATUR Min Rate 256 kbps The min upstream speed governed by the DSLAM at which it communicates to customer's router.

Do you actually get an effective throughput of 48 kBps? That means you have a perfect line with no protocol overhead whatsoever :) Surely it's more like 40 kBps?
That is average throughput per hour, well 47,7 to be exact, measured with a bandwidth meter over an extended time period. Point measurements show throughput between 40 and 55 kBps. After Telkom did some maintenance in December my line has improved tremendously. Using a capped account my line averages out at around 440 kBps, as per the AltBinz measurement for NNTP.

This guy is on a 512kbps line with a 384kbps account
I have a 4 meg line with a 384 account.

Hi fbman

Please note that your downloads could be affected by congestion at your exchange, more users on our network competing for the allocated bandworth, etc. especially compared to December.

Also having speed issues since yesterday at around 4pm.
Dont know what is going on.

Currently getting about 20kb/s and less on a 4mb uncapped account.
