The problem is, is anyone better. What's a 512k 24x7 unshapped package going to cost?

Its only R100 more than the shaped 4 meg... but there will additonal electiriciy costs.. as then you will have to download 24/7

I dont download 24/7

I agree - I am by no means a heavy downloader (usually no more than 30 - 40gb pm, and that is very seldom) but since signing up with MWEB I've had to leave downloads running through the day just to get them completed at a decent time! I understand that shaping occurs with respect to torrents, but my question remains unanswered - why are some people getting a solid 400kBps with torrents, and others crawling? My WoW latency is amazing, streaming is relatively hassle-free, so absolutely no complaints there, but torrents and often HTTP downloads are a real pain when you have a 4-meg line! MWEB Ops has tested my line and confirmed everything is fine, so the only conclusion I can reach is that I'm being shaped to pieces? Yet someone downloading 500GB pm is not? I'm confused!

I am amazed that you are on uncapped considering your usage. Why not use Afrihost 50GB option. It will cost you less and you get full line speed ALWAYS.I know because I moved to them from MWEB a month ago after getting fed up with the shaping on MWEB.

Starting to feel rather amazed myself - I guess I assumed that should the speeds be decent, that I could download a bit more without ever worrying about cap etc. But yes your suggestion is a great one! Definitely will go that route if this continues unresolved. You are in the same area as me too, so the advice is probably quite solid!

Yes. My router periodically doesn't seem able to connect to update the IP address on DynDNS. Not sure if the problem is Mweb account related or DynDNS.

I actually meant accessing XYZ.dyndns.com SITES themselves. The issue seems to have resolved itself.

going to drop you a little known fact here it seems... check your area and compare it to those who get full line speed. no rocket science needed to deduct where the *** speeds are currently, be it due to infrastructure, telkom or both. well imho i would say that that has everything to do with it.

Anyone else having a problem logging into Steam, or is it just me?

Edit: Nevermind, been trying for a few hours now but right after I posted this, it logged in... The hell? :S

been having sloppy speeds and pings all day, ping on BFBC2 is 170-500 and ping on LeagueOfLegends is 400-700 (euro server).download speed is 2kb/s on torrents and 10 kb/s on regular downloads.maybe i should switch to another ISP seeing as Mweb's service has dropped considerably.if i switch to telkom then my ping should be pretty good on SGS.

M-Web's deep packet inspection is smart enough to determine if certain Steam performance keywords come up in a forum post. Upon detecting these keywords, it briefly reduces Steam shaping, providing access while ensuring increased frustration and confusion.

Fact.

Can Mweb Ops please explain the below results to me? The ping to the Durban server is terrible (I am in Durban). These results are consistant over many weeks of testing.

Durban test server (Vodacom)

Joburg test server (CellC)

Cape Town test server (Vodacom)
