ok i bought astraweb account, not sure what port etc to use , but so far im struggling to get good speeds with it
Use the default port 119. If you try and grab news via another port Mweb will throw the AUP at you.

If you want good speed you will have to wait until 1am when the shaping is lifted.

Anyone else having slow problems - int is dead, and even MyBB is slllooooowwwww. (aahh....see 3 posts up :) )

HTTP might be dead but NNTP is flying for once. Take your time 'fixing' it :p

Thanks. Now I know why it's so slow :D I'm sure you MWEB guys will have it sorted out asap :D Dying to play some RA3 online tonight.

Can't even upload 500KB of data to my host in America on this account. Wow MWEB this account is truly beyond pathetic!

my speedtest is also fine 3.43Mbit but everything else is dead slow. Its been this way for sometime and even though mweb ops has been awesome with trying to help, he keeps telling me its because of my high line attenuation. My attenuation has always been high 53DB but my SNR is 14db which should be more than fine to sustain 4mbit, my line doesnt drop or anything, its just that the speeds are atrocious!

Everything was fine until the start of the year since then I've had non-stop issues with speeds. If things dont improve by the end of the month I'm cancelling as well. I use my line for work from home and having to sit for 15 minutes just to cache a 10 minute youtube video is ridiculous.

wow, this post sure helps a lot when you have to troubleshoot it. glad i didn't pull the shorted straw today ;)

how about a tracert to your host ?
how about few pings ?
tried to compare it with another isp ?
maybe your host is ****ed ?

care to add yours ?

It's not the host that is ****ed, it's the MWEB connection. I've been struggling today connecting to sites (timeouts/no responses etc). This includes 8 different servers (including the mybroadband website and youtube) acting up. So I doubt he's the only one and that it's localized to his server only.

speedtests dont mean a thing, get a nice 3.43Mbit rating from speedtest yet webpages take 3~4 seconds to load... never mind all the blank page loads and ridiculously slow streaming speeds...

Just as an example, I wanted to download Putty just now. I had to refresh 4 times before I actually got the download started. Chrome said "err_name_not_resolved" and then the last 3 times claimed it couldn't find the server at all (as if you're typing in a website that doesn't exist at all)

This happens on Youtube, Facebook and mybroadband intermittently including many other sites. Frustrating to say the least

no ****ed here. noone can just pull out of our their arse what is the problem if the poster doesn't at least try and troubleshoot a little by himself, you think ?

I've said this time and time again; my guess is, that it's related to some areas and specifically some of them in CT. however since no area, no tracert, no speedtest, no ping test, and so on was provided i suppose best one can do is throw some bones to know what is up, right ?

however... if at least an ip was provided, i and you could have done a tracert and compare with linoman....

Except that the MWEB reps on this forum have told us there's a problem, try reading a couple of posts up.

so then if mweb has told you guys there is a problem a few posts up why then still post anew about it when it's already a known fact ?

Because this thread is full of people apologizing for MWEB's problems. Not a week goes by without some sort of service disruption, and if no one complains then they get complacent.

Thank you, its constant issues for the past few days. With various websites, timeouts, having to refresh pages multiple times.

Another example, searching google just returned a "google.com doesn't exist" message for me...

seriously, you telling me that if i have a problem with a product, but it's already been noted as faulty in the public domain and the company in question knows i have a problem, i still have to go and make posts and threads about it ?

seriously don't understand your logic. mweb has noted there is a fault, mweb has said they will fix it and yet you need to get everyone in to post they have a problem because of that problem ? unproductive ?

Internet is SO slow today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot get into hotmail because it is so slow and the MWeb home page is taking forever to load....

this might be daft, but did you try the google dns instead of mweb's ?

8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

i think...

I can't even do a speedtest as it bombs out!

give me the host's ip at least so i can do a tracert for myself. no harm i'm sure.
