MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

That's strange, I can't access mybb, posting from my BB.

Trying a tracert shows "Unable to resolve", are there dns issues at the mo?

I seriously think that MWEB CEO should address these issues with SEACOM / upstream provider - if they cannot provide a stable service - then I would not want to use that service !.

Yes your tough crowd in most cases is the business user and the gamer, and you will be first in the line of fire when your connection fades (NOT SEACOM but YOU !).

Fact is, I am both of the above, I operate on some overseas database and webservers over RDP (transfer a lot of files over SFTP to / from them) this is alot of data (hence my uncapped choice)

Im an avid gamer, and when MWEB dies my gaming time gets cut (I play mostly overseas MMO's)
Sure I can go to another ISP, or get another prepaid account, but this becomes costly - and irritating to say the least.

My manager has suggested investigate a move to MWEB for our bonded lines, and that I should check feasibility. As it stands now, I cannot make that recommendation, as we require stability.
Not the case at the moment unfortunately..

Do you have an ETA on WACS usage ?

Sorry to quote myself - but any comment on this MR MWEB ?

I would just like to have some confirmation on this. Looking at the Mweb adsl purchase section of the site, I am a bit unsure with what I see when selecting the 512kb uncapped shaped line option under "1. Choose - Connection Speed", and then "2. Choose - Your package".

Option 1 offers Data & line rental (excluding phone line) right, for R599. Option 2 offers data only, but, underneath states that paying your line rental to Telkom would come to a cost of R625 (excluding phone line).

How do I go about paying Mweb for my line rental (in option 1) and stop the payment to Telkom itself?
And does this also mean that, in total, I will be paying: Data & line rental from Mweb R599 + R140 odd for phone line rental from Telkom = a definite total of R639 per month?

Hi

Our sales consultants will be able to request to get your adsl rental moved to us at MWEB. You will then be paying MWEB R599 for the 512 uncapped product including adsl rental, however you will still need to pay Telkom for the phone line rental.

Regards
MWEB Guy

i admit , gaming ( world of warcraft ) seems ALOT more stable , staying between 280 - 320 , still abit high. but much better. but international browsing is still the same.

Hi Anthropoid

I can assure you that we have put in a lot of effort and will continue to do so in terms of building stability and redundancy onto our network and while it isn't always possible to shield customers completely from some degradation in service in the event of a link going down we do have measures in place such as the failovers between SAt3 and Seacom which mean that as a business customer you won't lose connectivity in the event of a Sat3, or Seacom outage.

The problem we experienced with the new traffic manager in London having some stability issues was extremely unfortunate - ultimately having this equipment in place adds a further level of assurance for sensitive traffic and there was no way for our engineers to predict that it would behave in this fashion. this matter was addressed last night and we hope that it is now fully resolved. If this equipment does fail the network falls back onto secondary connections and this is what occurred during the brief outages that were experienced recently.

Regarding your question on WACS we will certainly be looking into the feasibility of making use of this connection, as I'm sure all ISPS in South africa will, however my understanding is that it will only become commercially available in early 2012 so I don't think you are likely to see anything happening on it this year.

Hi Everyone

In terms of the speed complaints we've received over the last few days we have gone over every possible aspect of our network and run extensive tests and we're confident that everything is running well on our end. We've also received no feedback from our connectivity partners which indicates a problem outside of our network.

I would like to just point out a few items that customers should possibly be aware of at this stage:

Please bear in mind that Telkom has rolled out 512k to 1mb upgrades over a significant portion of the ADSL network over the last few days. We don't have any firm indicators as to how far they are with this project, however it's our understanding from seeing customer feedback that the upgrades are already quite widespread.

This could very well have caused some instablilty while the work was in progress and could also result in an increase in congestion on portions of the Telkom backhaul network, particularly in areas where this is already an issue.

Customers who may already have a marginal service, particularly due to distance from the exchange may find that their service becomes unstable, or even unusable at 1mb. Pay particular attention to the sync speed you are able to achieve.

If your service has been upgraded and you are not achieving a full 1mb speed I would that this is a very likely indicator that your line conditions are not ideal and you would need to have this looked at.

Please do let us know if you are continuing to experience any problems with speeds, or it looks like you may be on a congested exchange, or a line that was upgraded to 1mb which is not functioning well and we will assist.

My buffering is still bad - music and video
My Mweb news server connection is still bad - average 150
Downloads off the net straight still top out at 200 odd
The odd site still loads slow or not at all

All of that vanishes when I switch to any other account, so I know it's not my exchange.

Browsing, streaming youtube and gaming has gone to hell. Haven't downloaded much the past week with all the problems and what not so I can't comment on that. It's not my exchange either as my other account has none of these problems.

HI Mephisto_Helix

Please advise if all streaming and music sites are being affected? Please also inbox me screenshots of downloads speeds?

Hi Rohan, which games are you having a problem with; also please provide me screenshot of ingame latency and download speeds.

Upgrade for 384kbps?

@MWEB: The 512kbps upgrade to 1mbps means that the available speeds are more evenly spread. Does this mean, though, that there is not likely to be any equivalent upgrade for 384kbps users?

Evening SabreWolfy, that's a good question; to be honest I'd hope so. I would have to confirm for you though.

Kind regards, MWEB Guy

A great question Sabrewolfy, at this stage I would have to honestly say that we really have no idea as we're still waiting for some official communication about the 512k upgrades :)

hate being a wet blanket but in the last few hours on news server, same download, my speed went from 40KBps to 30 to 20....atm its sitting at 15 so im guessing 10 isnt far off
and its a 384 account not 512 so blaiming it on the 1MB upgrades might be pushing it, this is cached content mind u, uncached comes through at half that

Cached content coming through at less than half speed here too.

Thanks for the replies :) *Please Telkom, please ... *

Account problems here. Speedtest at 1.5 Mb - 2Mb. SAIX account stays at 3.6Mb. Latency also erratic.
