Sure nelis if that's what it's going to take to convince you. I'd prefer to keep my Steam ID private if thats all the same to you, but I'll make a short video of myself getting owned for you tomorrow night (Black Op's is not my game and I'm not particularly good at it, but there you go :)

lol no problem. I just want your nickname so that I can see when you play black ops. and if you online when I'm having issues so I can see if you play the game wile I can't

Understand completely nelis and that's why with all due respect I'd rather not give it to you - sometimes a man just needs some quiet time with his rifle - I'm sure you can respect that :D

Ok it's fine :) don't worry you don't have to. anything I can do now to get my steam up and running. Not connecting at all

I'd try an entire reboot of *everything*. Hard-boot your router just in case as well.

Sounds like it could be a problem between him and the Telkom exchange. Every-so-often I get frequent disconnects (connection to MWEB holds up, but the line just drops) which causes lag/timeouts. Our phone has the old school metal-prong type connector still, so there's accumulation of particles on the connections which you have to clean off (causes a crap load of noise for the ADSL, even the voice line). However, noise on the line can be temporary (enough so that you nor Telkom can really see an issue) and can be very frustrating.

Maybe because some of us are working (I work US timezone as most of my clients are there) and having someone bitch and moan about a game they can't play vs me generating an income trying to feed my kids is kind of frivolous. Now, do yourself a favor and keep an eye on your router's signal-to-noise-ratio and line attenuation. I'm willing to bet cold-hard-cash it's a noise issue on your line and not an MWEB issue

The problem is not my line as My teamspeak is on whole time. Even when my game is disconnecting. even when I use a totally different line going to a different exchange point it's doing the same

already tried that. only steam connection issues

My guess is wait for Seacom to come back up, although I just dropped my steam connection and it came back up fine I wasn't able to get Black Ops to do much - looks like it can't find the Treyarch servers right now.

I'm getting some really horrible torrent and news server speeds. Just me? O_o

Yeah I saw that bit about MWeb and Seacom being down. You referring to that? Link between London and Marseilles?

ok will wait for Seacom. What if it's a major issue and they can only fix it by the end of the month like that one time. Must I still wait for Seacom before steam will work? Any other dns servers I can try?

Teamspeak is not neccesarily a good indicator Nelis. I had serious congestion problems on my line last year. My command line pings started at about 180ms and went up from there with packetloss of about 6%. It completely killed any attempt to game, but Teamspeak was pretty much unaffected.

I've just received an update that Seacom suspect a fibre break somewhere in France, no ETR as yet but hopefully it will be resolved by the morning. Good night everyone.

Not entirely sure how Steam works and why Seacom would affect it as much because we're on SAIX bandwidth now. It might be due to generally slow speeds that you're experiencing time-outs right now though. But I don't work for MWEB so can't just jump on their NOC and go "oh yea... congestion because of the failover"

I'd suggest maybe to try Web Africa. I *think* they might still be doing free steam downloads/prioritize Steam stuff? And since both Web Africa and MWEB peer in Cape Town, the ping on the MWEB Blackops Server should be nice (I even think WA has their own Blackops Servers, might be mistaken). MWEB has been brilliant thus far, even with all the cable breaks and **** thrown at them because of Seacom (or some tool with a jackhammer and a government job). Just gets frustrating whenever it happens during work hours (and as I mentioned, I don't keep normal SA work hours)

1:56am and finished. So luckily not 2am+ for me this time
