MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

I have noticed k@k http:80 speeds on my mweb uncapped 4mb account also. switch to my axxesslite account and swooosh, fast, full 4mb speeds.

Does mweb really shape port 80 traffic? :-( What about teh email port? That shaped also?

everything is shaped hence the product name "shaped uncapped"
but they have different priority levels for protocols and sites,
and also white/exclusion lists.

and they have to put in bandwidth management devices to put p2p and torrents etc on the bottom of the food chain, if you understand how a torrent connection and packets work, you will understand why they need to be clamped down, so they dont kill the connections for all the legit protocols.

the difference between mweb and most other isp's is , mweb has to do this for them selves, but 90% of the other isp's , rely on IS to do the top level bandwidth management.

*anyone who is not a troll is welcome to correct me if i missed a point :P

Okay, so I can expect horrible port80 speeds on my 4mb shaped uncapped account with mweb due to mweb not being able to manage their bandwidth efficiently, with exception of the guys running teh Capetown network, they should outsource their skills to their Durban and Joburg buddies.

Basically we are shaped to death on even the most popular port 80. Maybe mweb should upgrade their network if they have to shape web browsing to near death in the Durban/Jhb regions.

hehe no dude, u missed all my flames and rants i was was fighting for last week, http and normal streaming and stuff should not be at those low speeds, then there is no use in paying for 4mb product, performing at 512k product speeds

Agreed Vaalpens, thought u were changing your tune here for a minute, from reading your previous posts, maybe mweb guys gave you a couple "free months" to keep quiet ;-) (jokes)

We demand faster shaped port 80 traffic!!!! (Wait, what?!)

Seriously, why are we getting shafted on the supposedly highest priority port.

Axxesslite @ R19 per gig. Even when it's slow it's faster than Mweb's 20k/sec priced at R495. Gonna wait and see if speed improve following month end. If not then what's the point of paying so much for dialup speeds? Could just as well dig up my 56k modem and get Telkom's R7 callmore deal going again. :P

Hi Pabzilla

Please advise which site you are experience slow speed with and send me some ping test and tracert results.

It's been around a week since my last post (wasn't using the MWeb uncapped account for a while) bemoaning (only) the deterioration of news server performance on the account (everything else was fine). I used it again Friday (when I believe some changes had been made by MWeb) and it was flying, performing better than it ever had. Saturday news servers slipped back to being unusable the couple of times I tried. Then on Sunday again performance and speeds were back up. :wtf:

Will only get a chance later to see how it's running today.

update (last one for a while)
everything I use the product for seems to be flying again, i can watch 1080 and 720 youtube videos and download updates and software again without juggling accounts. http downloads multi threaded are also maxing again.
thanks again will & mwebguy and the ninja's behind the scene, the product isnt performing as bad as one of your lower end products anymore.

@Asy1um8 & @vaalpens

Thank you for the update, please monitor and keep me posted on your experiences.

Kind regards
MWEB Guy

Trust me, you dont want to see the news speeds today :( 12kb/s now.

That's fine. For the purpose of the "challenge" I issued to Durban users, whether it is shaped or not is irrelevant. I'm merely highlighting the vastly inferior experience Durban users are currently getting compared to Cape Town users.

I'm in CT & my connection has been rubbish for weeks, so I don't necessarily think it's a regional problem.
