MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

I was about to buy an MWEB uncapped account, but now I feel a little hesitant. Cape Town user: should I be worried?

You should wait dude, something has changed at mweb and the shaping is out of control. What speed is your line?

If you sign up you are locked in for two months and right now that is not a good feeling sadly :(.

hmmmm justin.tv seems to be streaming well after the normal cut off point.

Well im using P2P and everything seems to be going fine, even FS,RS and MF are going at decent speeds.

I have done as you asked, after you have refreshed my account- I powered my router down for 20 minutes (the whole night actually). But getting on this morning, I did another speed test and it's the same/worse.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/1333284607.png

Down 19
Up 11

And from MyBB's speedtest:

Test conducted on Thu Jun 09 2011 09:14:01 GMT+0200 (South Africa Standard Time)

Download Speed: 253 kbps (31.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 99 kbps (12.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 314 ms

Still far off the normal speeds I used to get.

@Gimaru - Thank you for the update.

I will look into this for you from my side in the mean time.
I'll provide you with an update as soon as I receive some feedback.

Kind regards,
MWEB Guy

Will.. My atraweb does not work like your connection is currently.

I get 0kb from astraweb pretty much between 8am to 2am.. Yesterday for about 40 minutes I managed to connect and got 100kb (between 5pm to 5:40pm) Between 2am to 8am its full speed.

I can say that the mweb news server does give me about 20 to 4okb.. depends on what downloading within the 8am to 2am window, which is handy, however I do sometimes like to download older stuff.. stuff older than 200 days which is mweb news's age limit. therefore i need astraweb. Yesterday mweb news spiked to 280kb for about 2 hours in the early evening.

This all started on 23 May at 6pm.

I am also in the cape town area...

Will, please its almost been 3 weeks now..

I've just come from a discussion with our engineers now and they are looking at various scenarios around nntp. I'll update you guys as soon as I have some feedback.

Great stuff - holding thumbs. I'll let you know how my nntp went today when I get home.

The files I download are almost always HTTP and PSN. I probably download about 45-50GB's a month.

Even with all the moanings here and problems I would still say Mweb is the best value for money. You should easily be able to manage 40-50 gigs with them. Hopefully once this nntp problem is sorted out then things will be back to normal.

I never use NNTP, but I tried it earlier to see what speeds I could get. Was pleasantly surprised to see that I was getting 160kb/s on cached content. Downloading some non-cached content now at a very decent 80kb/s. I'm using the Mweb news server with four threads connected. Hope this isn't just a fluke.

MWEB have clearly done something... good! :)

I've queued up a random documentary and it's going at a solid 40KB/s from europe.newsdemon.com with no fails and such.
Remember last night, no matter what I queued up - it would just fail/time out etc.

Obviously, during the day, 40KB/s is okay, I won't cry about that - but this is already showing that something has been changed / fixed because over the last what - 2/3 weeks, all downloads just fail etc.
I'm hoping they have fixed their problem and later I get full speeds.

Well I had no problems gaming on Xbox live last night, but saw my PS3 downloads were like crawling though .... But when I woke up this morning I saw a drastic change in my downloading speeds 300Kb/s so not too bad. Thanks again for the great service

How do you see the speed, calculating?

I stand corrected - the speeds have no dropped to a AMAZING 10KB/s!

And it started happening 5 minutes after I made my post.

This borders on pathetic!!!!
