You suspect wrong.

SSL was shaped from day one. It's only over the last two months that it bypassed shaping occasionally. I personally never even factored this into the equation as it is a setting on my Newsbin client that was set like that from the start. I though the better throughput on my account from May onwards was an improvement in MWeb's service. How wrong I was.

I trust that their ABUSE department will terminate my account tomorrow. Once again Mweb reveal their true colors.

SSL (that is, encrypted traffic over a secure connection or through a VPN) is not shaped. I stand corrected that SSL from certain sites and/or over certain protocols and/or from/to certain ports may be shaped, but SSL traffic generally is not shaped.

Astraweb's SSL servers are shaped.

What a mess! I cannot even play KZ3 on PSN tonight. Lag, disconnections and bans galore. What's up Mweb? How many times must I still hold back my cancellation in the vain hope of the great Mweb performance ever returning? Chances are looking slimmer by the day.

Yet this looks so good ????

Hi KoKaRoT,

I will look into your requests as you have mentioned.

Thank you for taking the time to post your kind words.

Hi MWEB Guy,

I am really interested in how the street lights will affect the shaping. I have an account with you guys, would just like to know what time and why at that time do you relax shaping and if you do to what extent. I realize that you shape NNTP to 0Kbps during the day, but later the evening (After 6PM) I only get about 50% of my normal speed.

Thanks for being available like this, it really helps.

Shaping is dependent on network load not time of day.

And?? How has that got anything to do with DSL?

Scroll back. DeadCore asked about internet dropping dead at the same time every day. MWEB Guy asked about street lights and sprinker systems. Street lights coming on after hours is potentially confusing correlation with causation. People also eat dinner or have a drink or sit in traffic after hours, but this is probably not correlated with ADSL throughput or shaping :)

internet keeps dying.why does this happen everyday at around this time?

Hi DeadCore,

Do you have any automatic updates set on your PC that starts at a certain time? What time does your street lights go on at night? Do you have sprinkler system that switches on at night?

How many PC's connect to the router at night? Do you have wireless security on your router? (Maybe someone connects at night to your router)

Do you perhaps have an Ethernet cable running next to fluorescent lights?

There can be so many factors that can answer this trend. Please provide me with your MWEB account details and I'll investigate further.

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

Maybe it's got to do with [-]load[/-]light shedding, then half the Mweb servers go of line?

More people jump on the Internet broadband wagon when the streetlights come on, in simple terms that is after hours and thus when the Mweb broadband scene get congested thus limiting the experience for all and anyone. Problem is not the lights but Mweb refusing to increase capacity. Ok Bro? Give it a rest now, that lights comment was in jest.

Doh. My bad...I should learn to read properly. :o For some reason i thought he was referring to lights in the house - maybe your phone/network cable is running too close to a fluorescent light which could cause interference.

Street lights...that's pushing it! :)

He does mention fluorescent lights and ethernet cables in his reply which I quoted above.
