I tried sabnzb last night and during the setup pages where you enter the server and port, it wouldnt even connect, just timed out, round about midnight

Cant even use it at night... wouldnt even work at two in the morning...

correct should not config it.

wierd mine works fine :/

...steam downloads seems to be exactly limited to 100KB/s

:edit
Both JHB and CT mweb/wefarica gives same result maxing at 100KB/s. However, I've now changed the download location to an overseas server and magically I get 200KB/s max peaks.

I had the exact same situation happen to me with regards to the money being paid however because i was not able to access my MWEB Email account , i didn't see the abuse letters and was terminated.

However i do acknowledge i was using the service fully :), so will be taking my money elsewhere it seems. Will & Mweb Guy was answering all my queries after i was cut off so kudos to them for that.

OpenWeb GOLD it seems is our next best option, follow me and your money will be refunded within 2 weeks as that is what i was told :/

@Will

I have replied each time an abuse letter was received.

Hardly any feedback was received back from the abuse team, just another generic response and the next day, another notice.

On 27 June I received a notice of termination, to which I replied immediately.

Nothing more was heard until today when my service was terminated, and guess what, my money for July was taken off my bank account!!!!

Can you please help.

Hi. Gmail is still very very slow, just about dead. It takes about 5min to open a mail, but my afihost backup is just fine.

MWEB Guy, should I be getting abuse emails for downloading too much on an uncapped account :wtf:

What do you mean by "too much"? Warnings of termination are issued for contravening the AUP, not specifically and only for downloading "too much".

I got the email stating the following:

Your current ADSL usage pattern shows repeated instances of prolonged download sessions at line, or near line speeds which is placing an undue burden on our network and is not in keeping with our Acceptable Usage Policy.

I then emailed and asked whats going on. I paid for an uncapped account to download with. I then got a reply from [email protected] with a table of my downloads for the month with the following statement:

Your pattern of behaviour clearly indicates that you are an habitual heavy downloader and as such this product is not suited for your needs. Your pattern of usage is not in keeping with the terms and conditions of the product, which clearly state that you are not to behave in such a manner as to intentionally place an unnecessary burden on our network.

So I'm not supposed to heavily download with a 4MB uncapped account? So what exactly is the point of an uncapped account? Obviously not all-you-can-eat. They need to change the name of this account to capped xxxGB.

Dude you honestly cannot be surprised by this :D, t's and c's are there for you to read.

Downloading 24/7 is not allowed. Get over it and move to openweb gold.

lol, I do not hope this becomes a daily feature where you come over here and flaunt your gold ;)

So it's my job to decide what hours and when I should download? That's absurd. It's Mweb's responsibility to shape me if their network is taking strain. This is what they offer:

ADSL: Uncapped
Use as much data as you like (Subject to our Acceptable Use Policy)

If they can't offer that, then they must terminate my account, refund me and I will move elsewhere. No skin off my back.

No only until my mweb account is gone :D. Until then the flaunting will go on. when you can stream youtube video's while downloading you know you've hit GOLD

Use as much data as you like (Subject to our Acceptable Use Policy)

Have you read the AUP, i am assuming you missed it, perhaps go read it bud.

Then it's obviously not uncapped is it ;) Eat as much as you like, but don't eat too much else we will terminate your account :D

He is quite right. If he wasn't bypasing shaping in any way then he should have been restricted by the network. However, Roligov, how were you continously downloading at near line speed for long durations? AS far as I know this only happens with VPN/SSL, unless its something like steam etc and even that is regulated by the shaper at times.

My new GOLD account is awesome. Better than MWEB was even when they just started.

Dude. It's a super cheap uncapped account consumer account. Of course there will be restrictions. If you wanna download without warnings move to GOLD like Killadoob and I :D

A typical way to ensure line-speed downloading on shaped protocols is to use SSL/VPN. If MWEB were to shape that as well (to manage their network as you suggest) then all SSL traffic would be affected. This issue has been discussed to death on this thread many, many times. The shaped accounts require that you use them within the T&C and the AUP, failing which MWEB will issue warning of termination notifications. These are issues to a small number of users who intentionally and specifically go out of their way to bypass the shaping or otherwise use the service in a manner which is not on keeping with AUP.

Nope I wasn't using VPN because this would be bypassing their shaping which I don't wan't to do. I'm happy for them to shape me. I mainly use direct http downloads and newsgroup downloads (Didn't know about SSL not being allowed). Not sure what my speeds are like when I go to work, but according to the download stats, it looks like I was getting "near account speeds", I have a 6MB line. Why they not shaping me is up to them, maybe I should email abuse@mweb and ask why they not. Also with the SSL thing, why not shape at the source (aka the user account)?

What is the price difference? How is OpenWeb able to offer (and charge for) a shaped service which, it seems, is actually unshaped?
