surely if you ran news downloads 24/7 all month, it shouldnt trigger any abuse as it wasnt running at line speed?

Unless your running over SSL or VPN or some other protocol besides 119.

Just checked my NNTP - ye Gods...I'm getting full NNTP speeds during the day! What's broken? :p

@Will & MWEB Guy ;)

They has been nothing short of helpful wrt my abuse / account cancellation :)

+rep to him for handling all of us with our issues.

He (Will) says the money that was payed for July will be payed back on the 15th so i will be waiting patiently.

My uncapped days are numbered but i will return someday in the future :p (saving up money for studies :) )

Proof?

I'm getting 25KB/s using NewsDemon on port 119.

Hi MwebGuy/Will

thanks for answering questions and dodging stones here on the Forums.
We make use of a few VPS hosts etc for training and demoing products etc, but our host has announced that they will be launching seedboxes for p2p.

Is it advisable to move on and find another vps host which do not provide any seedboxes or p2p facilities?

our data transfer speeds on ftp between here and the servers have degraded a lot recently, and our uploads are taking long.
we just want to be on the safe side and not "maxing" the line out 24/7 in an attempt to upload and download the applications and demos etc.

Unfortunately we have to make use of the UK servers because that is where a lot of our clients are, but we are in the process of testing Mweb's sollutions as well.

Recently i started up wow again. I have to say this as a compliment to mweb. Wow latency is pretty damn good, without a vpn.....I am pleasantly surprised. Only issue i have is, after running the launcher and clicking play it takes like 2 min to load the game. On my afrihost 1gig its instant. Dunno whats up, does anyone have a fix for this or is this a known issue?

You can get much better speeds on popular/cached downloads using MWeb's own news server even during peak hours... when it is actually working. Unless you use the "naughty" protocols which will get you banned, or need a back-up and long retention, there is not much point having a premium news server on MWeb.

yes in your wow folder there is wow.exe, this will launch game without having to use the launcher :)
(i did that as i saved every bit of bandwidth on my 3g, as back then i copied patches from friends etc)

i use to only use that, but seems to replace my shortcut on my desktop with the launcher one now :/

though mine launches fine with mweb, or any isp.

Im going to use my prepaid account till all this crap is sorted out. Getting quite tired of getting a stream that completes in seconds, then trying another one that buffers for minutes on end!

Makes me mal!

Credit where it's due - my connection has been solid for the last 2 weeks or so now *touch wood*. NNTP speeds are back to normal, WoW and other gaming latency is particularly low, streaming has improved too. I know I gave MWEB quite a hard time with the mess of the last few months but whatever was wrong has been fixed. Thanks MWEB!

Okay so tell me what you think about this then. A big drop in the performance since a few months ago, for a year it was consistent and then boom, big drop for everyone. Now people complain over and over, maybe use the wrong terms, lol who cares, this is like customer support. Its not a trolling ground for kids like you.
Also noticed a general drop in speed on my uncapped 4Mbps mweb account whereby I'm often getting 512k speeds or lower. I agree it's pathetic, but I still don't agree with the claims made in the post I responded to, and nor should you, no matter how gatvol you are too. AFAIK The reduced service levels still aren't in breach of their AUP, unfortunately. I have a separate SAIX account because I don't even bother playing CS on my mweb uncapped account. You'd think popular UDP game ports would be exempt from shaping, but 300ms latency to IS servers from MWEB reveals otherwise

Well I do download a lot of older stuff (eg. +600 days ) so I do need the premium. My question is why is it being throttled so? I don't expect full line speed during office hours but 25KB/s? Really?

No idea. Something happened on Sunday. A switch was flicked. Throttling ensued. Let's hope it's temporary.

Switching over to my backup Afrihost account - everything is fine - all downloads over all protocols run full speed.

Revert back to Mweb, it spikes at high speed then immediately drops down to some predetermined threshold by which downloads are being choked. Many protocols affected here which weren't before Sunday - so I'm going to say it's not dynamic shaping. In fact I know it isn't.

But alas, Mweb has been good to me overall as a service, and some of the points about giving credit where it's due are valid.

Let's hope this issue gets resolved asap.

Seeing this exact thing; seems as though I've been throttled.

Hi PhreeMe,

I have changed a setting on your account, changing the access from 'protected' to 'normal'. This can be changed back again. Please test and keep me informed.

Regards,
MWEB Guy

Hi MWG

Same problem with youtube tonight.... Can that setting be left as it was permanently?

Thanks
