MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

They either kill it or severely cripple it... currently running at 2KB/s. Guess they over-subscribed

Don't see how slow nntp speeds is a reflection of over subscription, getting full line speeds here on http. Guess I'm in the under-subscribe pool

Well when it's 60x slower than what the line can do, then either they can't handle the subscriber base running at a decent, shaped speed or they just plainly taking the piss.

http has priority so naturally it will run on full speed. I'm not here expecting full speed on nntp, but 2kb/s (which is what one would expect on ancient 56k tech) is something special.

Edit: Little added note... 3 / 4 months ago it wasn't this bad and I had a 384k uncapped. Funny how it starts happening when they upgraded all 512 lines

Maybe just too many children looting the news server, How many news servers do you think they have? I'd take a good bet probably 2 nodes at most and that's too little to feed the horde however you look at it.

Uncapped isn't just about zomg nntp, seriously lacking and logic fail if you are going to compare nntp speeds to the subscriber base of mweb.

1. How many news servers they have is irrelevant, I pay for my own.
2. Never said uncapped was about nntp... I'm happy to be shaped and wait, but I was getting better speeds on 384 so whats the point in paying more.
3. Logic fail? In order to uphold the speeds of your prioritized traffic... the ones with less priority take a knock.. I reckon that's pretty logical. Btw with the upgrade from 512 - 1Meg you can easily double the traffic, not to mention the amount of people that probably upgraded their 384's.

I had a shocking revelation about MWEB's shaping earlier this week. I had a torrent running at 0.1k/s on my 4 Meg account. Switched over to Afrihost 1 Meg account and got 197k/s. They're not shaping... they're obliterating.

Hi TheYak,

Please send me tracert and ping test results from the two accounts. Please advise what type of account the Afrihost is?

Kind regards,

Hi venomzn,

We have no reported speed issues on the network currently. Please provide me with your MWEB account details and I'll investigate further. Have you made contact with our Games administrator via our dedicated games forum?

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

@MWEB: My line was fine for most of yesterday and all of yesterday evening. This morning the router is syncing and desyncing every minute again. Please advise. Can I use that Telkom reference number you quoted online anywhere to check the "fault" status?

Still getting constant time outs on websites, and have for several months now. Today is especially bad, this includes all sites, local and international.

[EDIT] It even timed out posting this. And no I'm not doing anything in the background, the connection is not shared, etc etc etc. Just plain browsing. Also, the speed test shows fine speeds on the mweb speed tester.

I have had numerous phone calls from Mweb trying to help me, but none have managed to make an improvement.

Happens with IE, Firefox, and Chrome.
