Every Time when I experience slow internet or disconnection then just a few days after that there is a issue on MWEB network. They always blame my line and 99% or let's say since I signed up it was always a MWEB issue. I think the truth must come out. You guys don't want to do your jobs and always takes the easy way out wasting Telkom's time making it hard for them to improve South Africa's internet.

Please can you next time just do investigation from your side and stop blaming my Telkom line. Next time I think it's your time to get the blame and not Telkom.

From now on I want MWEB to Email me all my calls I logged that has been closed with resolution details.

in Pmb, did a speed test and had 3.5mb/s this morning, currently at 0.24mb/s. Any network issues? reset my modem twice.

Having great speeds at the moment! Almost too good though, and I am getting worried I may be downloading too much this month. What amounts are considered fair on a 4meg uncapped line before an abuse letter is sent out (considering I only use legit ways to download stuff and don't circumvent any shaping)?

Nothing will happen as long as you don't:

1. Constantly download - whatever this means, just pause for 5 minutes a day? I thought they were supposed to shape you according to their network any way. Doesn't make sense to me.
2. Use VPNs etc to bypass shaping

Most people I know download almost constantly without bypassing shaping and nothing has ever happened to them. Talking 200GBs on 1Mbit, 400GB+ on 4Mbit...

Re 1: (Most) HTTP is not shaped, so it is possible to queue up HTTP downloads at line speed 24/7/365. This would be considered a contravention of the AUP.

Hi brianssj100,

Please provide me with your MWEB business account details and I'll arrange for them to call you.

Thanks, I know about those policies. Was just wondering what an acceptable usage would be, using normal methods. Am way below the 400 so should be fine then :)

Hi Mweb Guy

A technician called me. He said the line is syncing at 4mb/s on his side. I connected to the router and it says it has 4096 download and 512 up, yet speed test still gives me speeds of a 384 line, even when connected directly to the router.

Hi brianssj100,

Please can you PM me your MWEB account details in order for me to look into this from our side.

In Capetown line got slightly better today, but still pages take very long time to load, before wouldn't load at all, now just have to be extremely patient. Right now it is worse than dial up on most sites. it is taking about 10 minutes to download a 500kb file from gmail on a 4mb line.

I moved to my new place recently and I am really enjoying my new 1mbs uncapped account. I must admit that I thought downgrading from 4mbs uncapped would be a mistake but I can honestly say I haven't felt the difference in browsing or with downloads. Biggest thing to get used to is the difference in streaming. Just need have a little patience while waiting for videos to buffer. Getting used to this will take a while.

Thanks for the good service so far Mweb.

my connections been dead for days.......

ive given up complaining.....i give up......its hopeless

Hi dudleygb,

I had a look into your account and it shows that there is a connection running from the 19th.

Please try and refreshing your connection to see if that was just needed.

If it does not, make sure your connection is set to obtain DNS's automatically.

MWEB Guy

@Mweb Guy.

We use Open DNS to block certain websites in the house from the kids. Pinging youtube, google etc gets us to local sites (low ping times). How would this affect the rest of our internet experience?

Hi Elax,

Our caching technology on our network allows for certain content such as YOUTUBE to be given a good streaming service. When using 3rd party DNS's could possibly not give you a good experience with certain internet content however we will not say that you can't make use of them.

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

Actually I have good news for you sir.

Both Google's Public DNS servers and OpenDNS supports edns-client-subnet, which means while using public dns servers on different networks, they still resolve to optimal results for the clients using them. As far as I know, it works for CDNetworks, Google Cache, Google ect, and its just Limelight and Akamai that still needs to come to the party. Correct me if I am wrong, but M-Web is served from Akamai in London, so in that regards nothing should be different for Elax regardless of which DNS server he is using.

Here is a blog post about it: http://robert.accettura.com/blog/2011/08/30/improving-dns-cdn-performance-with-edns-client-subnet/

I actually read something about that in an OpenDNS newsletter, hence my question. Only thing I did do on my side is that I hard coded (in the hosts file) the mweb news server to jhb, as I'm in Centurion

Skype performance (video calling) on Mweb uncapped 4mb unshaped is abysmal at the moment. Any way to try improve performance?
