11 OCTOBER 2011

SEACOM experienced a service affecting outage in the Mediterranean on Saturday, 8th October between Abu Talat (Egypt) and Marseilles (France).

The estimated time of repair is expected to take approximately two weeks. The repair vessel has been notified of the callout and mobilization will occur once the necessary permits are received.

SEACOM has now added substantial restoration capacity to the network and by late afternoon Tuesday will have restored approximately 85% of its customers’ required services on alternate routes. SEACOM continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide customer updates regularly.

Very unhappy at the moment with Mweb, we have been getting slow speeds for 2 months now at night time all the way until 2am next day. This is what i have been through the last 2 months:

1: Phoned Mweb cause our line was slow, the guy said our throttle from last month was still active (who throttles over 2 months?) and this was on the day we payed for that month.

2: Phoned telkom they said we where not being throttled and Mweb cannot even see if we are or not.

3: Phoned Mweb again in same month, this time i was told that we have a 1mb (true) but apparently telkom or on there system it was trying to push 2mb so it was causing the line to slow down, so i had to phone telkom to fix that (nice customer help there, why should i phone to fix a problem you guys caused?) I didn't though, only done it on this Sunday that passed when they reminded me again to phone telkom and as them to do it.

4: Phoned telkom to get line speed dropped, lady laughed at me for asking for a lower speed.

5: Phoned Mweb again and this time (again) they had a different reason, apparently there is a problem at our exchange which is causing the internet to slow down only at night (lol) and that i must phone telkom to fix that problem (again nice customer service, another problem i shouldn't have to fix)

6: Phoned Mweb on this Sunday that passed, now they have a problem internationally which is causing lag apparently for local games as well. Lady said she will sms me when the problem is fixed, and I'm 100% sure she / or you guys won't.

Shouldn't have to go through so much trouble to get what we pay for. Another problem, how can you throttle a family of 9 (yes 9 people staying in our house) for abusing line? when we just got over 35gb in a month, 3 people use it to play games, the others for FB, emails, work, etc.

Friend told me of this site today, so my thought is if they can't help me 1 on 1 over the phone, maybe i should make a post for public eye's since companies like to help then.

On 1mb uncap. Sorry for any spelling mistakes, I'm typing with anger.

MWEB doesn't throttle; even if they did, it would never "carry over" to the next month. If you are on a shaped account, certain protocols will be shaped, which means that the amount of bandwidth available to those protocols will depend on how much "unused" bandwidth is available at the time. Have you checked the quality of your line? SNR, etc.? Have you tested the line with an account from a different ISP? I suggest you send a PM to "MWEB Guy" on these forums. If your line is with Telkom, then you will have to contact them if there is a fault on your line. Telkom provides the line and MWEB provides the Internet connection/account. If you have the all-inclusive account from MWEB, then they will contact Telkom for you.

As i said Mweb told me they throttled me, they also told me the throttle was still on. Telkom then said Mweb doesn't control and cannot see if we are being throttled. I haven't tested the line since the problem just happened, one month perfectly fine (except when they throttled, or whatever you want to call it), the next...slow as hell with many different reasons as to why, with minimal help.

I believe we pay Telkom but our internet service is from mweb, even though this is the case surely they can be more helpful instead of making different reasons, or telling me to phone this place or that place.

Things changing all the time - someone is moving the chairs on the Titanic.
This is the main problem I have with MWeb, inconsistent service. I was with OpenWeb for 2 years and I can only recall two days when the service was "slow" but even then Mr Beep got it up in no time... I decided to check out other options again and see if anything had changed... Wow was it really just bad timing!? This is all too familiar with Seacom issues happening every Friday back in the day... Hmm wait, thats not the consistency I want right?

You know I understand things go bad, and stuff breaks but they never reimburse you for days of service lost... hell no! We must just fork out and get alternate bandwidth ourselves! In any case it looks like OpenWeb will be getting my money again next month.

Steam not connecting for me either.
You guys could try the all-in-one fix, removing the clientregistry.blob and see if that works. Steam client had another update last night anyways...

Service went down hill with the Seacom outage, normal service was till 12pm on Saturday.

Yeah I got the update, hence the restart and now can't connect. No need to fiddle with settings as it comes right when the connection does.

My Steam is running fine as far as I can tell.

Is it just me or is fileserve completely blocked? Haven't been able to get on there since yesterday morning.

Managed to download the new GT 5 Spec 2.0 update last night in under an hour. Sweet... Thanks MWEB!
