great, I might as well have a 384k account...

@MWEB Guy is there a problem, since my connection is again slow, like when seacom first went down?

Is it worth upgrading my 384K account to uncapped (shaped) all inclusive 1mb? How long does it take to get my line upgraded?

Hi Kitty09,

Line speed upgrades can take upto 21 working days. I have seen Telkom do it within 3 days. All depends.

Let me know if you would like to upgrade and I'll send the request through.

Regards,

MWEB Guy

I'm holding out for Telkom to just upgrade all 384kbps "broadband" users free of charge ... :D

Telkom upgraded my line to 1mb in about 5 minutes, did it over the phone, about 2 minutes after the call was ended my internet was down and my line had been upgraded

That could be a very long wait. :)

Trust me when I say that the upgrade from 384k to 1Mb is substantial. You won't want to go back. :D

:D Yeah, I'm sure there is a huge difference. Having enjoyed uncapped for the last 18 months, 384kbps is starting to feel very, very slow. Will it be a long wait do you think? How much longer can Telkom continue to offer 384kbps for? They're testing 8mbps and 10mbps lines. They should just upgrade everyone to the next speed level *wishful thinking* :)

My brother has a 384k Mweb account and I must say, it actually works pretty well!!

Thanks for the info. Will make a decision next month (after my exams) :D

I agree; I'm not complaining about it :) It works well, so I use it more, so I start to notice that it is quite slow compared to the other (more expensive) options available.

cant access these 2 sites using mweb account

Even before the Seacom's outage I noticed that I cant access certain websites, here is an example of a few

thetvdb.com
sharethe.tv
trakt.tv

Any reasons as to why that could be, seeing that they work just fine when im at work using a MASSIVELY slow Iburst account?

If you have problems wth browsing while downloading torrents, stop the downloading program then the browsing should return to normal. I tested it, even if one torrent is downloading the browsing is bad... Never used to be like that but since a few days ago this is how it is. So now I just download torrents at night...

Dont know if anybody else tried doing the same tests.

I'd try comment on my download speeds, except im asleep when anything happens. The rest of the time it's dead.

Still got stuff from like 4 days ago in my sabnzbd queue.

Oh ya and browsing is super slow

If your downloads are chowing up your entire throughput then closing it will improve all other services. Otherwise I cannot see how closing a downloading program will help.

Now there is the funny thing PostmanPot, I dont even get 40Kbps on my torrents and i have a 4MB line and account, I do understand if you are downloading at 400 Kbps or more the browsing will be slow, but i am not even using half the capacity.... That is the weird thing..
