My internet is also down to a crawl this morning. Speedtest shows a ping of over 1000ms to a local (<30miles) server :( In the Welgemoed, Bellville area

Nix's traceroute uses UDP packets by default on high numbered random ports. These usually are blocked by default on most firewalls, where ICMP will be opened for monitoring.

So to test properly, you want to tell traceroute to use ICMP packets, on most distros you will need to run it as root/sudo then.

Code:
root@heaven-htpc:~# sudo traceroute -I www.mweb.co.za

Hi TmanSA,

I have checked, your line readings are fine and there are no reported issues in your area. Can you please do a ping and traceroute so that I can look into it further.

Regards,
MWEB Guy

Dear MWEB;

Is there any reason you don't publish the IMAP details on the website, only the POP details are there?

Hi hambone,

The IMAP details are: imap.mweb.co.za

MWEB Guy

My speed has gone down the toilet. News server between 1kb and 4 kb/s. Sites take forever to load. Anyone else with a problem?

Hi Ronjay,

I had a look at your line readings and it does look irregular. I would advise contacting Telkom and ask them to re-create your port. Please test thereafter.

Thanks, I'll get a hold of them in the morning.

Just got this from Mweb

"Dear MWEB Customer
This email serves as a notice regarding your MWEB ADSL service.

Your current ADSL usage pattern shows repeated instances of prolonged download sessions at line, or near line speeds which is placing an undue burden on our network and is not in keeping with our Acceptable Usage Policy.

According to our records this is the third notification we have issued and we are left with no choice but to initiate steps to cancel your service with 24 hours notice."

Well to prove a point i stopped using the account on my 2nd warning which was acutely the first warning i received,
So it's very strange!

Mweb you are now a bad ISP in my eyes i don't think you really monitor accounts you just cancel at random....

Was nice knowing you for the past 20 months...
