most bikers used to get away in the past with smaller numberplates - the space allowed on bikes was never an issue. Trust me I ride a harley with a big-ass numberplate (looks ugly as hell). the issue is that if you do not have a regulation numberplate, legally, the cop can pull your disk and you will have to do the whole C.O.R thing again. my bike had a place for the small plate, to I made a metal T-plate that bolts on upside down with the numberplate and then allows more support for the plate on the stem of the T

One has to wonder how it passed through roadworthy like that.

Then again I put mine through roadworthy just fine but that's because I needed the Roadworthy to get the paperwork to get the correct plate so maybe that's why they ignored it? Or they don't check for that at all?

But yes there should be some kind of bracket.

I think they put it through roadworthy without a plate on. Or they just did a backhander.

Fortunately they've at least made the newer sizes quite reasonable.

But on my Buell which was also made for the American size plate I was constantly losing SABS size plates and eventually ended up getting an American size one that stayed there for the life of the bike.

It wasn't stupidly small so I think the cops just ignored it because it was obvious I wasn't trying to dodge the system.

With my BMW now I got two options for sizes and obviously chose the smaller.
 
they probably did it through Dekra - they don't care about the size of the plate on the bike before licensing as the actual license could change after licensing

Yeah thinking through the process the numberplate probably changes with ownership so they would ignore it.

With my BMW even with the factory standard bracket they gave me **** about some reflector or light being missing and I had to just promise nicely I would get one.

For all you know the dealership has loads of brackets laying in their stock room because nobody ever wants them so it's worth just asking.

Yeah, numberplate isn't changing. I did get a new plate, just need a bracket. Emailed them this morning, no response yet.

Yeah exactly what I think the case is because I went to Dekra and there was a stupidly small Limpopo plate on that nobody cared about.

Not even the cops on my ride down, which is where I expected the most ****.

But Dekra did give me endless crap for the red reflector not being their (either by default or removed due to small plate, not sure) and before selling my Triumph also couldn't find the engine number and wanted to fail it based on that but then ran the DATA Dot and was happy.

I typed gap. But I'll leave it like that as it's actually more applicable.
 
Anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced screen deflector like this? screen-deflector-smoke.jpg

I've heard they do wonders for wind noise on the highways.

You could try War Eagle Racing in Pretoria .. I know they do screens for all kinds of bikes and they ship to just about anywhere in the country .
Or Cape Town - Moto Bakker imports the MRA windshield range
