A decent rain suit might also be a good idea if you intend to commute no matter what the weather.

The jacket I'm getting has a waterproof inner liner, so pants are the only missing link there...? right?
If it's obviously raining I probably won't ride - at least in the first year or so until I'm more competent. If I'm at work and it starts peeing down, it's not a trainsmash if I get home wet :D

i think that manufacturers have realised that a small bike for commuting is the way to go - even kawasaki and suzuki jumped on this with the versys x300 and v-strom DL250

That will work fine but there are some draw backs which is more prevalent on long distance riding, just be aware where your non water proof items are stashed likes keys wallets and cellphone.

Good point, thank you.

Honda NC frunk FTW ;)

Gonna be installing a cigarette lighter socket in it as well...

One of the reasons my smartphone requirement involves an IP rating since because then I know my phone should survive random rain regardless of where I put it.

I rather fancy this Honda X-ADV Scooter!!!

I've got a cell holder mounted, and a cigarette later socket with a car charger and a switch hidden away so i can charge my phone. I also fitted a alarm and modified said alarm so it has a shock sensor (standard) and a tilt sensor (mod).

Finance stuff all signed. Bike went for service, PDI and roadworthy today.

Just the fkn insurance...

Bike is in my possession :) have done about 15km on it so far.

None yet.
And of course I've just had my first accident. Trying to turn round in sandton city parking lot and lost it and scratched a BMW. That driver wasn't a nice guy. Started off very aggro, "what you gonna do about this, you must just fix it" type stories while I tried to exchange details for insurance. First words "what do you think you're doing", not a single enquiry as to whether I was ok.
Then insisted we wait for the police to come to take statements, because he said I would just disappear if he let me go to the police station. Refused to let me move the bike out of traffic. After like an hour, sandton security convinced him the police weren't coming, they had all my details and they really didn't think I was gonna do a runner.
Angolan, obviously knew fokol about the law in SA.

Looks like today wasn't a good day for either of us, dropped my bike today when my foot slipped when stopping at home. Broke mirror and scratched the fairing. Glue is busy drying right now on the mirror but the scratches are too deep.

My indicator punched through his taillight and my mirror is what gouged his paint and put a slight dent in the panel. Some scuffing on the mirror but almost invisible. Indicator is fine. Helmet shield somehow broke. Fuknoze how.

Eish Sinbad.

Malls are the last place I would go with a new bike or rather as a new rider.

U-turns are tricky, even for veterans.

No idea what situation was but sometimes it's much easier to just push the bike around while off it instead of trying to do manoeuvres on top of it.

****

But yeah I wish people understood accident protocol better, would make life a lot easier.

Yup. Lesson learned. Luckily no one hurt...

Unfortunately you'll probably learn a few more of those and hopefully none hurt too much but just enough to not do it again.

The amount of times most motorcyclist have fallen over doing stupid (predictable) **** probably far outweights real accidents.

The worst was, sitting in the police station for an hour, came outside and the heavens were about to open. Karked myself.

I have this tendency to have accidents when I'm not messing around, today I was riding peacefully no speeding. In my car a few years back same thing, for once driving slow and somebody drove into me.
