882km over the weekend and I am properly broken. It's weird how you can be fit for one type of exercise, but not at all for something else. Very clearly not riding fit :p Luckily I did still know how to ride, although I did hit a stretch of mud (hidden by a corner) way too fast which led to some adrenaline

I'll likely be going on a breakfast run this weekend or the next. This one looks like rain from the extended forecast, so probably looking at 13 Sep

If I was on anything else probably not but a 1200 has a nice and comfy seat

My 800 has the comfy seat, but my ass still gets sore... Being tall though, the bend at my knee in relation to the foot pegs is more uncomfortable though. I set my Pre-Load on my suspension for the first time on Friday, so hoping my next long ride will be more comfortable, and that cornering will feel more stable. My sag was 105mm :wtf: ... set it to 65mm, should be much better.

I just push buttons - ESA ftw. And I finally got a wind deflector add on so I've got the seat in the highest position meaning I've got that little bit more room for my legs too
Although I reckon a big part of the comfort is the balanced engine - on my single cylinder 650 after 250km I'd already be eina.

Ha, that reminds me there was a guy in our group on an old 1150 - he hadn't set up his suspension at all (and he was a big guy). When he got on his bike there was literally no suspension left. People asked him if he couldn't feel something was wrong and he just said ya it's a little bumpy. So they cranked the pre load as well and after that he reckoned it was like a brand new bike to him... Sometimes I wonder how people can be so oblivious :p

Mate I'm slowly getting into this biking thing, but I wouldn't know my preload from my postload. Guess it'll come in time but for now, just planning on buying one, not fiddling with anything, hoping for the best.
Don't forget, most of us are coming from cars where you jump in and go.

If you have a bike with electronic suspension no need to worry.

If you don't take it to someone to have it setup for your weight. Makes a world of difference.

Sometimes the manuals also have some recommended settings in them.

Lol ... not always full 100% electronic. My 800 has some settings that are electronic and others that are not. The Pre-Load is not. But the ride modes & comfort levels are electronic. The 800 though is very basic in comparison to the 1200. I can select Road or Enduro modes then I also have 3 suspension settings (Comfort, Normal and Sport). As far as I can tell, there are no settings for the front suspension. I also have the ability to disable traction control & ABS.

I created a new bike reveal video of my baby. Loving this bike too much!

Not much of a reveal since your avatar/icon gave it away but very cool video regardless.

Some noise would have been lovely though.

At this point, pending test ride I'm sure I'll find myself on an S1000XR next year.

That XR is going to be a big seller, upright comfy position with all the power of the R 1000 engine, just insane pleasure.

@Archer 92kw for the GS vs 118kw on the XR... Wet pants anyone :D

Yeah I know. But still had to do it :) The XR is a fantastic bike. Love it! Good luck in getting it. I deliberately saved the noise for a later video :)

Hi guys.

I'd like to get the process going of getting a bike. My initial query is around the the learners license. Is the K53 learners book the same for bikes as well as cars or does the bike license have it's own guide that I should get.

Thanks

EDIT: Ok, so it all appears to fall under the same K-53 set of rules so that's all good (obviously I guess, as rules are rules regardless of the mode of transport). So is it just a case of calling the nearest testing centre and scheduling a time to take the test? Do I need to specify that it's for a motorcycle license?

Call? You mean go in person!
Last I knew you couldn't call to book an appointment, may be wrong though.

So yeah the book is the same, they just have a section for the motorcycle controls.
Then you go to a testing centre, fill out the form for a learners test (you would specify it's for a motorcycle), take an eye test and pays your money.
Take a pen and a copy of your ID.
When you go for the actual learners test take pics and a bit more cash.

Lol yeah. Not sure why these places even have telephone numbers listed! Thanks for the info. Will get the process going. Any ideas what the costs are these days? It's been 16 years since I did this last...

EDIT: Application fee R68 and R33 once the test is passed. Hope this is accurate.

Different areas will have different costs but mine were higher than that.
Application fee, not 100%, but take at least R200 - I'm pretty sure it's quite a bit less than that but rather safe than sorry. Take small notes if you can - more than one person had to hang around for ages for change.
Test was R60.

Each Province has their own rates.... Always take cash, I have yet to see a card machine at any testing station in KZN... I just did my final test last monday. Pretty simple, took all of 15 minutes.

Weather seems good for this weekend, if any CT folks want to join for a breakfast run give me a PM and I'll share the details.
It'll be all tar and I'm guessing 3-4 hours round trip (incl breakfast) and 200km

yeah ... I got an itch again to change bikes .... R1200GS Adventure :D. Found a proper good deal on a 2015 LC full house, waiting to see the deal they offer me...
