I literally had a petrol attendant tell me this morning "Safety First please" while putting my stats into Fuelly.

They honestly believe that a phone will spark the fumes while filling up.

This of course while wielding the card machine about...
But do you own a Samsung

Technically your phone isn't IS. Then again - neither is the card machine.

Que. 2 bars left after 280km but avg 4.4? Makes no sense...

My first couple of tanks were high - assumed that the dealer filled it full when I bought it, but they didn't. Clicky link to see more stats.
Also, I did 150km of long distance on this tank...

Intrinsically Safe

But in the real world has there ever been an occurrence of a real danger with regards to a cellphone near a fuel source?

But yeah like I said if you want to worry about cellphones then you can't use card machines either which are 90% the same thing.

I'm still not quite convinced, none of those seem matter of factly to prove it's the cellphone itself igniting anything.

I would be more inclined to believe the static electricity when accessing it from a pocket was at fault...which could apply equally to a wallet or anything else.

Even beyond that let's assume it really is the phone how does this actually happen and more so how does it apply to a sealed unit?
