After more than 2 years of riding I found this good beginner info video.

Just did 1005km over the weekend, Durbs to Fouriesburg on Friday (scenic loop through Golden Gate offroad), Fouriesburg to AfriSki in Lesotho on Saturday (very brrrrr), then home yesterday. Two up, fully loaded with Paniers & topbox. Average speed about 90km/h total avg fuel consumption was 5.7l/100km. Very happy with that! Would recommend a trip through Golden Gate to any Biker, really stunning!

As for Lesotho, no major hiccups, two Police stops between Caledonspoort and Butha Buthe, no issues though. Plenty of road works on route to Moteng Pass. The Pass is a must, just wow!! But its not in great condition, gravels in the worst switchbacks and potholes. Took it easy and enjoyed the ride. AfriSki was flipping busy, they obviously had to use snow making machines for the Ski slope, was no snow around. Overall, brilliant trip. Oh, we had lunch in Clarens on Friday on route, man how packed is that place over a long weekend, thought there was a festival was so busy!

I haven’t watched the video now, but probably have in the past.

I just want to say I wouldn’t take the opinion of a guy who has literally almost died twice in two years of riding too seriously on this topic.
 
Reserve tank seems to work on reverse psychology in Germany, because this thing counts up instead of down.

Steering is also a bit spongy. :)

But this whole sitting like a meerkat thing is still very very weird to me.
 
I may end up bumping this post occasionally - so apologies in advance...

Anybody in JHB know a reliable motorcycle electrician that is prepared to do a house call? A good mechanic I have - and I'm not looking for a mechanic that "knows electrical".
I would prefer somebody well versed in 12v on bikes as Im looking to basically cut the loom off my KTM that Im converting to a naked street fighter and neatening up the rats nest the previous owner left behind. Feel free to PM me details please.
 
Looks great man. What do you mean about the reserve counting up?

Auto electrician is what you're looking for.

There's a place in Pta that we have used in the past, but, it's 1) in Pretoria, not Joburg, and 2) not sure they do house calls.
 
Hi, first time poster here:

I'm planning on buying a 1994 Suzuki TS50 frame with a ported Suzuki TS125 swopped into it. I just want to use the bike to chase my friend's KX125 at Zone7 so I don't care about the papers. The question I have is about the exhaust, it doesn't have the factory one but with my basic welding skills I'm sure I can fabricate a straight pipe exhaust for it.

Will a straight pipe be bad for the engine or not?

Hi. Welcome.

I'm not entirely sure it would hurt the engine, but a mechanic might be the better person to ask. At the very least, you'll lose the performance that an expansion box on a 2 stroke exhaust offers.

The light comes on and then it starts at zero with a trip computer.

It was at 78km by the time I got to the garage not wanting to risk it any further. My friend with a GS800 after the fact says to me "don't go over 30..."

Now WTF is the point of that?

Honestly gives you absolutely no idea of how much you have left to go except if you run it dry once to check.

The liters used gives some idea at least if you remember how big the reserve is. But even that is silly and in my situation where I don't know the bike is meaningless.
