I've become a little more aggressive lately, only noticed when i watched my video of my rides. i don't have time for them, i go around, even if i must skip across multiple lanes to do it.

i have however noticed on my daily commute on bowling avenue that most drivers are kind, moving aside even on the single lane portions. My arm eventually gets tired from thanking everyone.

I can't wait to ride my bike, i often go to the shops furthest away just to ride, especially in traffic, i like splitting.
 
So,

My son started a new school, and it is a big change in my driving routes etc. The traffic is killing me. I am thinking of getting bike / scooter to leave at school and then take it to work and back ??? It will be from Eldoraigne in Centurion to PTA CBD, so not really any highways.

Looking at a scooter, second hand.

So i can get BMW C1, with little roof and wipers for about R 40 000. Does BMW Motorad still service them ?

Or i can get a C50 GT 650cc for R 80 000.....

What would be the better option ??? i haven't ridden a bike in about 15 - 20 years, so ja..

Oh, then there is also the Suzuki Burgman that i can pick up for anything between R8k and R60k it seems

or, as always, any other suggestions will be welcome

Edit:Nice looking bike, but for some reason i prefer a scooter , must be the age
 
If you're going all the way up to R80k in price, I say forego the scooter idea and get something like the Honda NC750X DCT
 
It's hard (very hard) to argue against the NC as a commuter. Even though I don't own one, and my aims in motorcycling are different to purely commuting. Stick around, it will probably get a bunch more recommendations than just the two.
 
I'd love to own a Burgman or Tmax one day. I mean just LOOK at it:

Don't think you can get more comfortable on a [-]bike[/-] two wheels :p
 
You will be very surprised at how quick you will get back into riding. I did that in 2016 after about 20 years of being out of the saddle and bought two bikes, a 250 twister and a 1200 sportster. I got rid of the the 250 after about 2 months as it was parked of most of the time. My commute is from Midstream to Sandton daily. I would look for a bike that is easier to move around with in traffic (I know you said that it is mostly back roads, but your reasoning is to avoid traffic, so you will be splitting quite often). I would rather go for a 650 upwards adventure style bike. 650GS, 650 Versys, Africa twin. Easy to move around with, more comfortable riding position for any form of commute. You can pick up a decent Versys for between R28k and R40k


EDIT: Oh yes, forgot about the 750 Honda's (rodent free of course)
 
Ah, missed the automatic gearbox....

Now for some more investigations, thanks for the info guys and girls

Because it does everything a scooter does while also being a real bike.

Reasonably priced, good motor and automatic option.

And its not gay....

Scooters are a horrible compromise. Even the high quality ones like the BMW.
