Then again I just had chatted to someone who brought a bike back from Greece, across most of Europe to South Africa via ship.

They just need to enforce the rules of the road that are currently in place and that will make everyone better road users

Exactly! This is the long and short of it. We don't need more rules. More rules mean nothing of they are not enforced. And why would new rules be enforced if the current rules aren't?

Not at all, it would probably be more chaos.

What would make sense is to do a mandatory PRACTICAL course as part of the application towards a learner's license.

That way we don't have people with a bit of theory operating heavy machinery on our roads.

And when I say practical I mean like advanced driving, not another K53.

Whenever I drive with anyone who hasn't/doesn't drive a motorbike, it's clear to me that their focus and attention on the road and other road users is definitely lacking. The amount of thinking any biker has to do for everyone else on the road just makes a biker a LOT more observant than others.

Yeah I get where you are coming from.

They could also just be absolutely **** drivers and would kill them selves instantly on a bike which is why I said there would just be more chaos.

It’s so different in countries where bikes are the majority.

I get where you comming from, I never used to check left and right when going through an intersection if I have right of way. Since I started riding I always check, a habit I picked up from riding a bike. I'm alot more observant of the road in general, and bikes in particular.

So I believe it would help the only problem is I don't think people would agree being forced you to ride a bike before getting a car licence.

Bikers are more attentive than cage-only drivers. I can never understand why we don’t have the same bike/scooter culture as some eastern countries given our weather and decent but traffic jammed roads

just to put it into perspective. I have been riding bikes for 20 years with no license. the rules mean nothing. Sadly the selfishness of drivers in this country is a culture and not fixable by extra license training or more rules. Not to sound like an anarchist or macho guy , but in the old days in the army or as a kid, if I drove the way people do today you got a beating. either from a stranger or your own people. Nobody 'feels' the consequences of their actions anymore. I treat people with respect because i know what getting punched for being a snotty teenager feels like. Its a lesson that has very sadly fallen away in todays society. On many occasions in bike and car I have stopped someone on the road and got out to ask what the problem is and they have a massive mouth when locked in their tin can and moving. but when you walk over to talk they wont even open the window. Problem is not road rules or education, its an overall bad attitude.

No licence? So, no insurance will cover you if you have an off. No life insurance will pay out either if this comes to light.

Insurance , banks, (I contract in and out of FSPs) all are setup to take as much as possible and give as littel as possible back. By accepting that very system youve already given up.

and PS , I have annuities and so on for my son, he dont need no life insurance. I will not put his future at risk by investing money and trust in a company that can fall over tommorro and all your saving is gone. same with insurance. There really isn't. Unless you self insure, or have a large trust fund or something setup. In which case, good for you. I hope you don't injure someone else, cause the charges are different when you are licensed to be on the road.

But, to each their own, I hope you've researched your supposed ways around it sufficiently, and I wish you the best.

I have contingencies yes, It really isnt as bad as I think youve understood it to be. As I said I have lived this way for many years. takes a bit of self discipline but it works for me. I have just found in past experience that these organisations work more against you than with you. I have worked in public services and government all over the place and so my decisions are not revolutionary based or some attempt at anarchy, I think I maybe just had a closer look at the corruption and deception thats fed to the working man daily. I cannot in good conscience support those institutions , aside from the obvious like medical where we literally have our balls in a vice.
