War Eagle got back to me, unfortunately they cannot assist with the headlight covers without me coming in. They are in Pretoria and I am in Durban, so that's that.

I will just have to try and see if I can come up with a DIY solution, like I did with my panniers.

Why not road trip?

I would love to, but the Ninja is not comfortable for long trips unfortunately. After 100km I need to stretch my legs because of the riding position. So 1300km return trip for headlight covers? Yikes!

In hindsight I should have gotten a motorcycle with an upright seating position, but I fell for the looks. :X3:

Quite a distance yeah, right now I drive stupid distances for nothing, mostly because my car is my happy place and so I can jam some tunes, wonder if I'll still do this if I get a bike, I imagine I would.

You would still do it. I do too, but not overly long distances. Just half day trips on a lazy Sunday all on my own. I just ride to nowhere in particular and explore what is there.

Exactly what I do yeah, and I tend to drive through residential areas looking at the random shite there, also try to leave my phone and make sure I go somewhere random and in no specific direction which is both the best way to explore and to get lost:ROFL: asking strangers if you can borrow their phone when something goes wrong also doesn't work as well now as many years ago.

Found myself the other day and I wish I knew where it was, going through a place in some estate where none of the yards had fences, literally none and there were people walking about and children playing at a pool without a care in the world, gorgeous I say.

EDIT: May not be so amazing for you but for me in JHB that was a welcome sight.

I listen to music everytime Im on my bike. I kept breaking bluetooth earphones so tried the boompods and thats much better. I ride one of my Harleys , minimum amount of baggage, Music up . (can still hear the drag pipes over the Outlaw country music) . Nothing better. I can do 800 kilos in a day without a problem. I used to ride to pilgrims rest but that place is shot to hell now. not even the gas station still work. Usually stop at dullstroom although I maybe get a chance once a year now to actually be out of a day on my own.

What would you do when it floods? To get it going again? I'm too young to know these things.

I always used to have a set of plugs under the seat(I made a little holder for a plug socket at 4 plugs, and a set of jets for when I used to ride in land). Most times I would wait a few minutes then run start it.

With the 400 carbs I rarely had issues(Except with elevation changes)

Ahh I see, so you basically just have to wait for the fuel to evaporate, which removing the plugs would help with.

Usually the plugs would start fouling before the bike flooded completely, once the plugs fouled and got too cold to produce reliable spark when the bike was at running temp it would flood.

It is actually very funny, most people think that EFI has gotten rid of all of the issues that were associated with carbs.
For the most part they do. If you ever have the chance to have a look at your bike, or someone else's bike fuel and O2 levels you will actually be surprised how lean modern bikes actually run.

This is actually dangerous as running lean mitigates the cooling effect running slightly rich adds, and the learner the mixture that more NOx your engine will make which means the bike needs to be catalyzed.

dont shoot flames lean either

Does shoot flames, they're blue and quite small.

Though if you have a barometer and a set of jets you will be able to get a mixture that is just right. Weather tolerant, and it should add a little power....now everyone will get confused why I said you need a barometer.

Is there something, do you reckon that a carb does better than EFI? a quick google shows no things.

I've also never driving anything carby except a Bantam which I thought feels exactly the same apart from it was woefully under powered in low revs, what is it that drives some people to love it? can't just be nostalgia.

EFI is way better. Way more tolerant. Most EFI set up's are 'closed loop', there are O2, Throttle Position, MAF/MAP sensors to monitor air going in and the O2(Temperature and speed too in some cases) levels of air going in and the O2 content of air going out too. All this means is that there is constant adjustment to the amount of fuel input into the engine and monitor and adjust ignition timing, so you get a level balance of good fuel economy and power output.

Something you should note that EFI set ups produce more power and torque, and something that I like about aftermarket EFI systems is that I can 'tune for' peak power, peak torque or balance the two - and it is way easier as I have all of the data in front of me, in real time. I can do the same with a set of side drafts, but I need to tune and drill(I have really small drill bits for this) fuel and air jets to get the car to run in various environments without needing to change the jetting of a carb.

Running lean has way more to do with emissions regulation that EFI though.

The two just kind of coincided in a point in time, but really the requirement to run lean is purely to pass regulations, not because EFI makes a requirement of it.

That is something I'm sure nobody misses.

Bringing your vehicle from Jo'burg to Cape Town or the other way round and it running like **** until it gets tuned.

EFI just does it on the fly and nobody even notices, other than getting more power at the coast.

I am well aware of that, and sadly the issue is not EFi - it's Euro X regulations. Easily fixable with a Power Commander and a dyna.

Speaking of such things, if I wanted to have my K6 GSX-R1000 mapped (I have a full yoshi but bone stock software) who in the Pretoria area would you guys recommend?

I do not miss it.

It is fun to do, if you know how too(Hence the barometer).

The part I always found hilarious was how the entire feel of the car bike would change as the altitude gradually increased.
